Job summary

The Vanguard Group in Malvern, PA is seeking a senior credit strategist to own CMBS/RMBS coverage and drive investment ideas. You will integrate credit fundamentals, prepayment behavior, and risk analytics to support buy/sell decisions on a fast-paced fixed income desk.

Ideal candidates bring 8 years in investment management with 4+ years in active credit structured products, plus strong SQL, Python and Tableau skills for large datasets and modeling. In-office Tue–Thu.

Qualifications

• 8 years in investment management; 4+ years specializing in active credit structured products focused on commercial/residential real estate and/or data centers.
• Leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, or engineering; MBA/MS and CFA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own coverage of CMBS/RMBS; track market, regulatory, economic developments and translate into opportunities.
• Build purchase/sale recommendations integrating credit fundamentals, prepayment behavior, value, and risk analytics.
• Monitor issuers/sectors; systematize credit quality changes, prepayments, and risk factors; deliver updates to the desk.
• Leverage analytics to improve processes and automate workflows; scale data integration and speed decisions.

Job description

Make it count. Help shape Vanguard’s structured credit strategy by delivering rigorous analysis and actionable recommendations across CMBS and RMBS. You’ll collaborate across the fixed income desk by providing research that optimizes value and manages risk through fundamental analysis and cutting edge research technology.

What you’ll do

• Own coverage. Maintain and expand sector expertise across CMBS/RMBS, track market/regulatory/economic developments, and translate impacts into investment opportunities and desk insights.
• Drive decisions. Build purchase/sale recommendations that integrate credit fundamentals, prepayment behavior, relative value, and risk analytics.
• Monitor what matters. Lead ongoing surveillance of issuers/sectors; systematize monitoring of credit quality changes, prepayment trends, and risk factors; deliver timely updates to the desk.
• Elevate the process. Leverage advanced analytic skills to champion improvements and automation—streamline workflows, scale data integration, and accelerate decision making.
• Influence and represent. Present views and strategies to senior leadership, internal partners, and clients; build relationships with PMs, banks, issuers, rating agencies, and peer analysts.
• Lean in to projects. Contribute to special initiatives and cross‑functional efforts that strengthen Active Credit.

What it takes

Experience

8 years in investment management; 4+ years specializing in active credit structured products focused on commercial/residential real estate and/or data centers. Team leadership experience strongly preferred.

Education & credentials

Bachelors in finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, or engineering; graduate degree (MBA/MS) and CFA preferred.

Technical edge

Advanced SQL, Python, Tableau; comfort with large datasets. Proficiency with Aladdin, Intex, Trepp, Yield Book.

Analytical strength

Deep quantitative skills in credit modeling and risk analytics.

Communication & partnership

Ability to simplify complex ideas for senior audiences and to build durable relationships across internal and external stakeholders.

Mindset

Curiosity, initiative, and a track record of driving process/analytics improvements and automation.

Work location & work model

Malvern, PA; in-office Tuesday through Thursday.
