Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking a high-caliber professional to provide strategic advice and executive-level support to senior leaders within the Office of Human Resources Management (HRM) in Washington, DC.

The role involves evaluating programs, preparing reports for the Chief of Staff's review, and coordinating with agency managers and program officials. The incumbent will back-up the Chief of Staff, manage meetings, draft communications, and handle sensitive information

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for providing strategic advice and executive level support to senior leaders by evaluating programs, recommendations, and reports requiring CBP/HRM Chief of Staff (CoS) review and approval. Ensures organizational goals and objectives are effectively incorporated into executive correspondence, communications, and engagements with agency managers and program officials. Exercises sound judgment, initiative, and leadership in representing CBP and HRM programs, priorities, and initiatives. The selectee will report to the CBP/HRM CoS and often works directly with the CBP/HRM Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Assistance Commissioner (DAC). The incumbent will be privy to confidential and sensitive information, so discretion and integrity are critical. While they won’t do formal briefings, they will develop project plans and procedures, gather and consolidate information, and provide status updates to CBP/HRM leadership.

The incumbent will also back-up the Chief of Staff, so they will likely be involved in scheduling and coordinating meetings and drafting messages and documents. The position provides a great opportunity to work closely with senior leaders and to learn about CBP and human resources. Critical qualifications include attention to detail, information management, written communication, interpersonal skills and teamwork, and integrity. It is a non-supervisory position, but the incumbent is often acting at the direction of, and on behalf of leadership. It would be great to find someone who has served in a similar role in the military.
