Job summary

The City of The Dalles is seeking an Assistant Library Director to lead programming, outreach, community partnerships, staff supervision, and operational support. The role also serves as Acting Library Director in the absence of the Library Director.

Responsibilities include strategic planning, grant writing, and representing the library in the community, with a focus on high-quality public services and data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of professional library experience.
• Experience with youth, teen, and adult services.
• Experience in programming and collaborative service delivery.
• Experience with reference, readers' advisory, technology, and social media.
• Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, Communications, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Humanities, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, supervision of staff and volunteers.
• Assist with hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating staff; foster accountability and collaboration.
• Lead programming, outreach, partnerships, and bookmobile services; align with community needs and library goals.
• Represent the library at meetings and outreach events; cultivate partnerships for engagement.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and performance reporting; ensure financial accountability.
• Address patron inquiries, feedback, and complaints with professionalism.
• Oversee marketing and communications (newsletters, social media, website, press releases).
• Collect program evaluations, compile stats, and prepare reports for planning.
