Job summary
The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University seeks an Acquisition Innovation Specialist to shape DoD software acquisition policy and practice. You will work with policy teams and research programs to tackle complex software acquisition challenges and translate innovations into programs.
You will collaborate across SEI technical teams, develop strategies, analyze data, and support DoD/DoW initiatives, with travel about 25% to sponsor sites and conferences.
Qualifications
- BS in software-related/quantitative field with 10 years’ experience
- MS in software/quantitative field with 8 years’ experience
- PhD in software/quantitative field with 5 years’ experience
- Experience applying Acquisition policy and DoW frameworks (DoDI 5000.87) is a plus
- Ability to travel ~25% to SEI offices and sponsor sites
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with and advise DoW acquisition programs on acquisition strategies, tools, and assets including AI
- Identify and address software-related policy needs across programs
- Research acquisition implications of emerging software technologies
- Partner with SEI teams to transition innovations into DoW programs
- Abstract and synthesize data to inform strategies and policy recommendations
- Develop approaches to apply innovations beyond DoW
