Qualifications

  • Two years of coursework toward a relevant degree (Physics, Acoustical Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, DSP).
  • Experience or familiarity with signal generators, spectrum analyzers, audio analyzers, or measurement tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative engineering team environment.
  • Interest in electro-acoustical transducers and audio signal processing is desirable.
  • Experience in live sound production, performance, or audio setup is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, modeling, and simulation of acoustic systems and components.
  • Support DSP techniques for analysis, tuning, and performance optimization.
  • Build and modify prototypes to support design investigations.
  • Perform acoustic and electro-acoustic measurements (frequency response, impedance, etc.).
  • Participate in structured listening evaluations to assess prototype performance.
  • Organize test data, document methods/results, and communicate findings to the team.

Overview

Shure offers a challenging, fun, and rewarding summer internship program. The twelve-week program is offered to undergraduate and graduate students. We offer internships with a variety of work arrangements from onsite interns to fully remote in US. Each intern will receive a competitive salary. Additionally, Interns who are asked to relocate to Illinois for onsite internships will receive a housing stipend to cover living expenses. Applications will be collected, reviewed, and selected candidates will be contacted in late fall/early winter.

The Acoustical Engineering Intern will assist with the design, prototyping, and testing of cutting-edge acoustical systems under the supervision of senior staff.

This Internship is Onsite in Niles, IL.

Responsibilities
  • Design and Simulation: Assist with the design, modeling, and simulation of acoustic systems and components.
  • Signal Processing: Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of DSP techniques for acoustic system analysis, tuning, and performance optimization.
  • System Prototyping: Build and modify prototypes to support acoustic design investigations and engineering evaluations.
  • Testing and Measurement: Perform acoustic and electro-acoustic measurements, including frequency response, sensitivity, impedance, and related performance metrics.
  • Subjective Evaluation: Participate in structured listening evaluations to assess prototype performance and inform design improvements.
  • Project Support: Organize test data, document methods and results, and communicate findings clearly to engineering team members.
Qualifications
  • Completion of at least two years of coursework toward a degree in Physics, Acoustical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Digital Signal Processing, or a related field.
  • Basic experience with signal generators, spectrum analyzers, audio analyzers, or hardware/software tools for acoustic and electro-acoustic measurements is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering team environment.
  • Strong interest in electro-acoustical transducers, acoustic systems, audio signal processing, or related technologies.
  • Experience in live sound production, live performance, audio recording, or audio system setup is desirable.

Each internship has an hourly rate which varies from $23-$43 per hour based on job function (Engineering, IT, Business, etc) and year completed in school (Junior, Masters 2nd year, PHD, etc).
