What You Will Be Doing
The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DOF) is hiring a Long Term, Non-Permanent Accounting Technician 2. This journey-level position is responsible for the accounting functions essential to the operation of the Aviation Section, ensuring office compliance with various state administrative and financial requirements of DOA Finance, DOA Personnel, DOA General Services, and DNR Finance. The position is responsible for technical accounting duties, including but not limited to financial monitoring, office travel, office supplies, services procurement, personnel and payroll verification documentation, and other administrative support functions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Considerable experience and knowledge of accounting functions, including:
    • financial monitoring
    • accounts payable/receivable
    • purchasing and inventory
    • travel policies and procedures
    • personnel and payroll
  • Researching and applying statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing documents such as manuals or handbooks, reviewing documents and agreements for content and style, preparing and presenting information to various size groups during training and meetings, and interpreting and explaining policy.
  • Information system experience such as: state accounting - Integrated Resource Information System Financial (IRIS-FIN); financial - Alaska Data Enterprise Reporting (ALDER); payroll - Human Resources Management (IRIS-HRM), or similar systems elsewhere.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of entry technical level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.

Substitutions:
Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.

THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY

  • A copy of any forestry and/or fire-related training certificates.
  • A copy of your two most recent performance evaluations or a letter of reference if evaluations are unavailable.

SPECIAL NOTICES

  • This position may travel within Alaska during the fire season (April 1 - August 31 or later) for up to 14-21 days at a time to assist area offices with fire and attend meetings or training.
  • May work towards qualification for other positions utilized in the Incident Command System.
  • You may work or need to be available during evenings and/or weekends, depending on the need during the fire season.
