Job summary

Ryder System, Inc. is seeking an Accounting Team Lead in Columbus, OH to oversee day-to-day accounting activities including general ledger, AP/AR, and month-end close.

You will supervise staff, review journal entries, ensure accurate reconciliations, and support compliance with GAAP and internal controls. The role requires 5-7+ years in accounting with supervisory experience, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Workday, Oracle, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.

Position Summary

The Accounting Team Lead provides day-to-day leadership and supports the accounting team and oversees day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close. This role ensures accurate, timely financial information and supports compliance with company policies, internal controls, GAAP, and applicable accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, supervise, and support the accounting team.

• Prepare, review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and accounting transactions.

• Review and validate AP transactions and accruals, for appropriate account coding.

• Review data supporting excise tax filings for certain jurisdictions.

• Review and validate monthly rent payment schedule, including rent, cam and related expenses, to ensure accurate calculations for timely payment requests.

• Oversee SG&A-related AP & AR activities to ensure accuracy and timely processing.

• Coordinate and oversee month-end and year-end closing activities and meet reporting deadlines.

• Prepare and review account reconciliations and resolve outstanding items.

• Perform quarterly sales commission payout calculation, maintain related amortization schedule, and prepare the corresponding monthly and quarterly journal entries.

• Maintain the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger.

• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and provide appropriate follow-up.

• Partner with internal business team to resolve accounting issues and provide accounting guidance.

• Support compliance with company policies, internal controls, GAAP, and applicable accounting standards.

• Assist the Senior Accounting Manager and/or upper management with special projects, financial analysis, and other accounting initiatives.

• Train, coach, and evaluate accounting associates.

• Approve weekly timecard for direct reports.

• Participate in ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives as needed.

Common qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting .

• 5-7+ years accounting experience.

• Previous supervisory or team-lead experience.

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial accounting principles.

• Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as SAP, Workday, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar. Workday preferred.

• Experience with Blackline account reconciliation software preferred

• Strong Excel skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to meet month-end closing deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

The compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s relevant experience; education, including relevant degrees or certifications; work location; market data/ranges; internal equity; internal salary ranges; etc. The position may also be eligible to receive an annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan based on the level and/or type. Compensation ranges for the position are below:
