Job summary

Civil West, part of the PCL Family of Companies, invites applications for an Accounting Student 1 in Long Beach, California. This role offers hands-on exposure to construction accounting, supporting budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking and financial reporting activities that contribute to project success.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree program, pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred, and must possess strong communication and MS Office skills.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a degree program.
  • Working toward Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety preferred.
  • Working toward safety designation.
  • Ability to learn OH&S, environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to problem solve and learn construction terminology.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office with aptitude for new technology.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and assists with implementation of the project HSE Plan and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies and assists in conducting project-specific HSE training.
  • Provides project team with HSE information and trends; helps create action plans.
  • Assists with hazard identification tools development and implementation.
  • Conducts project HSE inspections and verifies corrective actions.
  • Supports emergency response plan and project security requirements.
  • Gathers and reviews trade documentation; monitors safety compliance.
  • Verifies equipment and tool inspections are conducted and documented.
  • Notifies stakeholders of incidents and supports investigations.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Monitors and assists with implementation of the project HSE Plan, environmental plan, regulatory requirements, and any other safe work practices.
  • Identifies and assists in conducting project specific HSE training.
  • Provides project team with project specific HSE information and trends and assists to create action plans.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of hazard identification tools.
  • Conducts project HSE inspections and verifies that corrective actions have been implemented.
  • Supports project teams with the implementation of the emergency response plan and monitors project security requirements.
  • Gathers, reviews, and provides input on trade documentation and monitors trade contractor safety compliance.
  • Verifies that equipment and tool inspections are being conducted and documented as per requirements.
  • Notifies appropriate stakeholders of any incident and supporting the investigation.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships.
Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled in a degree program.
  • Working toward Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety preferred.
