SUMMARY
Under close supervision, performs basic bookkeeping and accounting functions for Finance Department; reviews and processes accounts payable and billing documents, and performs customer service duties.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Reviews and approves department invoices; performs duties within scope of authority and training; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Resolves irregularities and problems with customer accounts.
- Reviews reports, downloads meter reads, prepares utility billings, and investigates errors.
- Reconciles cash receipts daily and prepares periodic (weekly, monthly, yearly) reports.
- Completes work orders for customer meter services.
- Handles customer service issues, including delinquencies and special payment arrangements.
- Processes billings for City services; researches and resolves customer issues.
- Cross-trains in a variety of other Finance Department functions including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- One (1) year of bookkeeping and one (1) year of accounting experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Principles and practices of accounting, bookkeeping, and records maintenance.
Skill in:
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Providing effective customer service and dealing tactfully and courteously with customers.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- A valid U.S. Driver’s License is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
- May occasionally be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.
