Job description

American Modern Insurance Group, Inc., a Munich Re company, is a widely recognized specialty insurance leader that delivers products and services for residential property – such as manufactured homes and specialty dwellings – and the recreational market, including boats, personal watercraft, classic cars, and more. We provide specialty product solutions that cover what the competition often can’t. We write admitted products in all 50 states and have a premium volume of $2.2 billion. Headquartered in Amelia, Ohio, and with associates located across the United States, we are part of Munich Re’s Global Specialty Insurance division. Our employees receive boundless opportunity to grow their careers and make a difference every day - all in a flexible environment that helps them succeed both at work and at home.

The Accounting Process Improvement Analyst is a highly visible role that strengthens internal controls, improves financial accounting and reporting processes, and supports priority projects. Approximately 70% of the role focuses on monitoring general accounting controls and controls for specialty lines administered through third-party programs. The analyst plans and performs controls testing, evaluates control effectiveness, supports remediation, and partners with control owners and assurance stakeholders. The role also applies artificial intelligence, data analytics, workflow automation, and other technologies to improve testing and recurring Accounting activities while coordinating cross-functional deliverables and escalating significant issues.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Plans and performs risk-based accounting controls testing, conducts process walkthroughs, evaluates control design and operating effectiveness, and maintains complete, audit-ready documentation.
  • Analyzes exceptions and process issues, identifies root causes and impacts, communicates results objectively, and escalates significant issues and roadblocks.
  • Partners with control owners to develop remediation plans, monitor open items, and validate that corrective actions operate effectively and sustainably.
  • Supports risk and control assessments, fraud risk activities, control monitoring, and standardized testing, documentation, policies, procedures, and reporting.
  • Leads or supports process improvements that increase quality, consistency, transparency, and efficiency while maintaining appropriate governance and controls.
  • Applies artificial intelligence, data analytics, workflow automation, and other technologies to improve testing and recurring Accounting processes; validates outputs and documents solution logic, controls, limitations, and procedures.
  • Develops dashboards, analyses, and reporting; works with data stewards and stakeholders to resolve data issues affecting accounting, reporting, controls, or operations.
  • Manages or supports Accounting projects and special requests, coordinates cross-functional deliverables, and creates procedures, job aids, presentations, and training materials.
Required Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls and experience in financial statement audit, internal audit, or accounting controls testing, including workpapers, evidence evaluation, findings, and results communication.
  • Ability to document end-to-end accounting processes, connect risks to controls and testing procedures, and apply accounting and financial reporting principles; Statutory or technical insurance accounting knowledge is preferred.
  • Experience using technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence, or automation for audit, controls testing, or accounting processes, including identifying opportunities, defining requirements, validating outputs, and documenting related controls.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and data visualization, analytics, workflow automation, audit, or process-mapping tools; Python experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage priorities independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Property and casualty insurance, MGA, regulated financial services, public accounting, or large corporate accounting/internal audit experience is preferred.
Education, Certifications & Designations:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of accounting, internal audit, or financial statement audit experience.
  • Public accounting, large corporate accounting/internal audit, property and casualty insurance, or MGA experience, preferred.
  • CPA, CIA, CISA, CPCU, ARM, AIAF, progress toward a relevant designation, or technology-enabled audit or controls testing experience, preferred.
