Qualifications

Develops tactical and operational plans for the Accounting team and supports organizational objectives and business goals. Allocates resources to meet objectives and goals of the Accounting area. Directs operations for strategic initiatives and serves as a managerial point of contact for internal stakeholders.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manages a team of individual contributors and/or Supervisors, and is accountable for conducting effective performance management.
  • Develops tactical and operational plans to achieve Accounting goals, and communicates plans to managers, supervisors, and individual contributors.
  • Facilitates operations for general accounting functions, financial statement preparation, and audit activity, while ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Assesses key performance indicators while analyzing opportunities for improvements to processes, formats, and accounting controls.
  • Ensures compliance with internal policies and procedures, GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and audit controls in achieving the organization's goals and objectives for the Accounting function.
  • Responsible for managing operational aspects of their team (e.g., workflow, performance, and compliance), as well as ensuring achievement of team goals within established timelines and budgets.
  • Integrates Johnson & Johnson's Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decision making.

The Accounting Policy & Technical Accounting Manager is a critical role in ensuring the integrity, consistency, and compliance of accounting policies and procedures across the organization. This role partners closely with the Consolidations team, Finance leadership, and cross‑functional stakeholders to develop, maintain, and govern accounting policies and procedures aligned with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements and company standards. The role offers the opportunity to influence financial governance, drive standardization, and support business transformation in a dynamic, global environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and governance of global accounting policies and procedures.
  • Monitor emerging accounting and regulatory developments (e.g., FASB and SEC) and assist in the implementation of new accounting and reporting standards for the company.
  • Partner with Consolidations team, FP&A, Audit, and other Finance teams to ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing policy interpretations, documentation, and technical accounting guidance.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Drive continuous improvement and standardization of financial processes and documentation.
  • Provide training and guidance to finance teams on accounting policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting,
  • CPA license or equivalent professional certification (in good standing)
Experience and Skills

Required:

  • Minimum of 6–8 years of progressive experience in accounting, controllership, or finance, including policy or technical accounting responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC rules and regulations
  • Experience developing, interpreting, and implementing accounting policies and procedures.
  • Proven ability to partner cross‑functionally and communicate complex accounting concepts clearly.
  • Ability to react to changes quickly and work effectively in high-pressure situations, managing multiple projects at a time
  • Excellent written and verbal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships. This role will require the preparation of technical accounting memorandums and the ability to clearly articulate the accounting to others.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a large, matrixed, or global organization.
  • Background in medical device or life sciences
  • Prior experience with finance transformation or systems implementations.
  • Demonstrated leadership or people management experience.
