We are a leading commodity food marketing company dedicated to connecting producers with markets while delivering quality products to our customers. Our dynamic team is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the financial operations of our sales division and lead a dedicated accounting team.

General Description

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing all accounting functions related to our produce sales operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and leading a team of accounting staff. This role reports directly to the Controller and works collaboratively with other Accounting Managers to ensure seamless financial operations across the companies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a team of accounting staff supporting the sales division, providing mentorship, training, and performance management.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations for the Sales division, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, general ledger maintenance, and basic financial reporting.
  • Manage month‑end and year‑end close processes for sales operations with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Support the FP&A department in the preparation of divisional financial statements, reports, and analyses for management decision‑making.
  • Assist the Controller in providing auditors’ requirements during external audits.
  • Coordinate with farming division Accounting Manager to reconcile cross‑divisional transactions and reporting.
  • Implement and maintain accounting procedures and systems specific to sales division.
  • Collaborate with sales departments to provide necessary support on business operations.
  • Prepare intercompany billings and reconciliations.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by the Controller or CFO.
Education and Training
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • 5+ years of accounting experience with at least 3 years in a management role.
  • Experience in the food marketing or commodity industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and commodity‑specific accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and the FAMOUS ERP system.
  • Experience with commodity price risk management and sales contract accounting.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate cross‑functionally, especially with the farm division accounting team.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  • Experience in Agriculture preferred; Construction or Manufacturing acceptable.

  • Complete comprehensive review of existing accounting processes, systems, and team procedures in the sales accounting division.
  • Establish effective working relationship with the Controller and other Accounting Managers.
  • Conduct initial assessment of team strengths and identify development opportunities.
  • Create an inventory of reporting requirements and deadlines specific to the sales division.

Month 3‑4: Process Improvement and Team Development

  • Streamline month‑end close process for sales division, reducing time to close by at least 10% compared to prior year.
  • Implement enhanced internal controls and documentation procedures specific to sales division.
  • Develop and recommend professional development plans for sales accounting team members.
  • Establish cross‑functional communication protocols with sales and marketing departments.
  • Implement improved reconciliation procedures between sales and farm divisions.

Month 5‑6: Strategic Impact

  • Lead the team through a complete quarterly close cycle with improved accuracy and efficiency.
  • Design and implement improved commodity price risk management accounting procedures.
  • Develop enhanced financial analytics specific to sales division performance metrics.
  • Present comprehensive financial analysis of sales division performance to Controller and executive leadership.
  • Create documentation of all key accounting processes and workflows.
Success Measures
  • Reduce month‑end close timeline by at least 15%.
  • Identify and implement at least three significant process improvements that enhance accuracy or efficiency.
  • Make recommendation to address any significant control weaknesses identified in the initial assessment.
  • Improve team capabilities through structured development and coaching.
  • Build effective collaborative relationship with the accounting teams of farming division.
  • Coordinate with other departments and establish valued business partnership with the sales operations.
Work Environment

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level and working conditions are similar to those for an administrative office. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions outside weather conditions; extreme cold or heat.
