Job summary

HappyRobot in San Francisco, CA is hiring an Accounting Manager, General Ledger & OPEX to design and own our core close, multi-entity consolidation, and operating-expense accounting from scratch. You will build processes for US, UK, Spain, Brazil, automating routines with AI finance tools and partner with the Head of Accounting on GL policy.

Qualifications

• 6-8 years of progressive general ledger / OPEX experience, ideally including multi-entity or international consolidation.
• Finance engineer's mindset: you build scalable systems that reduce manual work and increase accuracy.
• Proven, hands-on experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) in your day-to-day work.
• Strong judgment about which accounting activities should be automated and which genuinely require human review.
• Solid understanding of foreign currency translation (ASC 830), intercompany accounting, and consolidation mechanics.

Responsibilities

• End-to-End Month-End Close: Design and execute a scalable close process from the ground up, including reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet flux review on a calendar optimized to tighten every quarter as automation matures.
• Strategic GL Partnership: Serve as a trusted thought partner to the Head of Accounting on general ledger and operational policy decisions.
• Automation & Efficiency: Actively eliminate manual, repetitive close tasks by leveraging system automations and AI finance tools, exercising sound judgment on where automation is appropriate.
• Multi-Entity Consolidation: Build and systematize multi-entity consolidation and intercompany elimination processes across US, UK, Spain, and Brazil entities (covering transfer pricing, FX translation, and CTA calculation) to replace manual quarterly rebuilds.
• OPEX Accounting Ownership: Manage end-to-end OPEX accounting, including unbilled accruals, prepaid amortization, and budget-to-actual variance analysis in partnership with FP&A.
• Feed & GL Reconciliation: Own reconciliation between AP (Ramp) and payroll (Rippling) feeds and the general ledger, seamlessly closing gaps left by automated integrations.
• Audit Readiness & Controls: Establish rigorous internal controls and reconciliation documentation standards from scratch to prepare for the company's first external audit, owning auditor relationships on GL requests.
