Par Pacific is seeking an Accounting Manager for the Montana Refinery & Logistics site. You will lead the finance and accounting functions, ensure GAAP compliance, manage close processes, and partner with operations and corporate finance to support refinery operations.

The role offers leadership over a team, interaction with auditors, and opportunities for advancement to Sr. Manager for qualified candidates. Based in Billings, MT, with a focus on accurate reporting and strong controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA strongly preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership of accounting teams.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and operational accounting.
• Refining, manufacturing, or energy industry experience strongly preferred.
• ERP experience required (SAP preferred).
• Proven ability to balance strategic accountability with hands-on execution.

Accounting Manager

The Opportunity

• Accounting Managerat a growth-oriented downstream energy company
• Serve as the finance and accounting leader for the Montana Refinery & Logistics site, with full accountability for financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting operations.
• Combines strategic controller responsibilities with hands‑on leadership of day‑to‑day accounting execution, ensuring accurate financial statements, strong governance, and effective support of refinery operations.
• Candidates with greater qualifications may be considered at the Sr. Manager level.
• Reporting to the Director of Operations Accounting, this role leads the refinery accounting team, partners closely with operations and corporate finance, and serves as the primary point of accountability for accounting policy application, audits, and financial integrity at the site.

Key activities include:

• Own full accountability for refinery financial statements, close integrity, and compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements
• Serve as the primary finance leader for the Montana Refinery & Logistics site, partnering with refinery & logistics leadership and corporate finance
• Interpret and apply accounting policies; make final determinations on complex or high‑risk accounting matters
• Own relationships with internal and external auditors and regulatory bodies as related to refinery and logistics accounting
• Lead day‑to‑day refinery accounting operations including general ledger, inventory, fixed assets, cost accounting, and operational accounting
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly close, reconciliations, variance analysis, and reporting.
• Maintain strong internal controls and SOX‑compliant processes
• Identify, investigate, and resolve accounting issues; ensure timely escalation and resolution of risks
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff
• Set priorities, manage workload, and ensure adequate coverage during close and peak operational periods
• Drive accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement across the accounting organization
• Provide performance management, coaching, and development planning for team members
• Evaluate, improve, and standardize accounting processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and control effectiveness
• Partner with Operations, Logistics, Procurement, Maintenance, and IT to support accurate accounting and operational decision‑making
• Support system enhancements and process changes, including ERP initiatives
• Contribute to enterprise initiatives aimed at standardization, integration, and best practices across Par Pacific

Additional qualifications include:

• Demonstrated advanced technical expertise and ability to independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex hardware and software issues, using critical thinking to identify root causes and implement effective solutions with minimal escalation
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to clearly convey technical information, document work, and interact professionally with employees, stakeholders, and external partners

• Proven ability and willingness to provide day‑to‑day and after‑hours support as needed
• Ability to work in office Monday through Thursday, with Friday remote option or ability to work 9/80 schedule
