WEOKIE Federal Credit Union in Oklahoma City is seeking an Accounting Manager to supervise the accounting team and oversee budgeting, general ledger reconciliations, reporting, and payment processing in line with GAAP and regulatory standards.

You'll collaborate with the VP Accounting & Controller, recruit and coach staff, implement new accounting standards, and ensure accurate financial information for the Board and regulators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA designation or active CPA preferred.
  • 3+ years of public accounting, controlling, financial analytics, or corporate finance in a fast-paced environment.
  • GAAP and regulatory requirements for credit unions or similar financial institutions.
  • Policy development and internal control experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise accounting team in GAAP financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Assist VP Accounting and Controller with staffing, coaching, and cross-department collaboration.
  • Oversee CECL preparation and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations and maintain risk controls.
  • Prepare monthly and other financial reports and manage document retention.
  • Train department personnel and support policy/procedure development.
  • Maintain high-quality service to members and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job description

POSITIONDESCRIPTION

is responsible for supervising and leading the WFCU accounting team in the execution of the credit union’s accounting and payment processes in accordance with regulatory and industry standards. These processes include internal and external financial reporting, general ledger reconciliations, fund management, budgeting and related monitoring, and ACH and share draft processing.

  1. Assists the VP Accounting and Controller to lead the WFCU Accounting team, including recruiting, coaching, and direction of highly skilled employees while creating a positive work environment within the areas supervised, and working collaboratively with other departments. Ensure all areas within the department are operating efficiently and reliably; are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and rules; have appropriate operating controls to mitigate risk; and are performing at a high level.
  2. Assists the VP Accounting and Controller to supervise the development, implementation, and monitoring of sound accounting practices, policies, and internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting across WFCU in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Lead the development and revision of accounting practices and procedures as required. Provide advice and direction to other Department Managers on accounting and internal control matters as necessary.

  1. Accountingdepartmentemployeesareprovidedwithapositiveworkingenvironment that encourages individual growth and success.

  3. ProceduresfortheAccountingdepartmentdutiesaremaintained,andothermembersofthe accounting department are cross trained.
  4. Nomaterialaccounting-relatedfindings,documentsofresolution,ormanagementletter comments are issued based on external audits and regulatory examinations.
  5. Asystemofappropriateinternalcontrolsisinplace andfollowedfortheuserstorely on financial information.
  6. GLreconciliationsmustbecompletedperpolicywithoutun-reconcileditemstoensurethe protection of member assets.
  7. Losses,errors,andrisksarecontrolledandmitigatedbyadheringtoallapplicablepolicies and procedures.
  1. Specialized or Technical Knowledge and Skills:The Accounting Manager must be experienced in GAAP,generalaccountingprocedures,andregulationsthatgovernaccountingforCreditUnionsor similar financial institutions and must also possess the following:
    1. ABachelor’sDegreeinAccountingand/orFinance
    2. At least3yearsof workexperience inpublic accounting, controlling, financialanalytics,and/or corporatefinancewithinafastpacedanddynamicbusinessenvironment.Musthaveextensive experience in project management and leadership/managerial roles.
    3. CertifiedPublicAccountantdesignation
    4. Provenabilitytodevelopsoundpolicies,procedures,andpracticesforimprovedoperating controls, productivity, and/or efficiency.
    5. Demonstratedexperienceinstaffgrowthanddevelopment.
    6. Exceptionalverbalandwrittencommunicationskills,includingskillsinacollaborativecapacity which will influence the effectiveness in which task are executed.
    7. ExceptionalskillsincreatingreportsandrecommendationsfortheBoardofDirectors,the Executive Leadership Team, and the Management Team as required.
    8. Demonstratedabilitytoworkwithdetailwhilemeetingdaily,weeklyandmonthlydeadlines.
    9. Excellentcomputerskills,includingExcel,andexperienceworkingwithaccountingsoftware programs.
    10. Abilitytouseanalyticalandindependentjudgmentforprocessimprovementsandproblem resolution.
