Job summary

Nelson Exteriors in Marietta, GA, is seeking an Accounting Manager to own payroll, accounts payable, job costing, month-end close, and monthly financial reporting. You will collaborate with project managers, ops, and leadership, and serve as the lead contact with our CPA firm as the function expands in-house.

The role is in-office with a performance-based pay component. You will drive the full accounting cycle and help scale the organization’s financial controls and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, or equivalent track record.
• 5+ years hands-on accounting experience, including month-end close and financial statements.
• Experience as the sole or lead accountant at a small to mid-size business is a plus.
• Strong command of payroll, accounts payable, benefits, garnishments, and compliance.
• Advanced QuickBooks skills.
• Proficiency with Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Gmail).
• Job costing experience in construction or project-based business preferred.
• Detail-oriented and trustworthy with sensitive financial information.
• Ability to clearly explain P&L to leadership.
• Self-directed with drive to build an in-house accounting function.

Responsibilities

• Close the books every month with reconciliations and period locks.
• Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L and balance sheet) for leadership.
• Develop job profitability reporting by cost, trade, and sales rep.
• Process weekly payroll accurately and on time, including deductions and garnishments.
• Manage accounts payable and ensure timely payments.
• Collaborate with project managers to verify job costs and expenses.
• Serve as main contact for the external CPA and support tax prep.
• Support insurance audits with required financial documentation.
• Maintain a clean, current QuickBooks file and organize records.
• Identify and improve financial processes as the company grows.

As our Accounting Manager, you'll own payroll, accounts payable, job costing, the month-end close, and monthly financial reporting. You'll work closely with our project managers, operations team, and leadership -- and you'll be our main point of contact with our outside CPA firm, which will shift from doing our books to reviewing them as this role grows.

This is an in-office role for someone who is precise, trustworthy, and ready to build -- not just maintain. Pay includes a performance-based component, so the better you run our books, the more you earn.

Where This Role Is Headed:

Year 1: Take ownership of payroll, AP, and job costing, and own the month-end close.

Year 2: Bring our monthly financial statements fully in-house, with our outside firm in a review role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Close the books every month -- reconcile all accounts, record accruals, and lock the period Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L and balance sheet) for leadership
• Build job profitability reporting -- estimated vs. actual cost by job, by trade, and by sales rep Process weekly payroll accurately and on time, including hours, overtime, deductions, bonuses, and garnishments, in compliance with federal and state regulations
• Manage accounts payable -- verify and pay vendor and installer invoices correctly and on time
• Work with project managers to verify job costs, material expenses, and labor charges
• Serve as the main contact for our outside CPA firm -- deliver clean books and support year-end and tax preparation
• Facilitate insurance audits and provide required financial documentation
• Keep QuickBooks clean, current, and well-organized
• Spot and improve financial processes and controls as we grow

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, or an equivalent track record
• 5 or more years of hands-on accounting experience, including month-end close and preparing financial statements Experience as the sole or lead accountant at a small to mid-size business is a big plus Strong command of payroll, accounts payable, benefits, garnishments, and compliance Advanced QuickBooks skills
• Highly proficient in Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Gmail, Drive)
• Job costing experience in construction or another project-based business is strongly preferred Detail-obsessed -- you catch the error everyone else misses
• Trustworthy and discreet -- you'll have access to sensitive financial and employee information A clear communicator who can walk leadership through a P&L as easily as you can answer an employee's paycheck question
• Self-directed, with the drive to build an accounting function, not just keep one running

Credentials That Will Make You Stand Out:

• CPA, or CPA-eligible and working toward it (a plus, not a requirement)
• CCIFP (Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional)
• FPC or CPP payroll certification
• QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification

What You Don't Need:

• Construction industry experience (helpful, but we'll teach you our process)
• Experience with our specific systems beyond QuickBooks (we'll train you on JobNimbus and our internal procedures)
