Job description

Overview

As the Accounting Manager, you will oversee our accounting operations, lead month-end close and financial reporting processes, and ensure accuracy in compliance with GAAP. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, support external audits, and supervise a small accounting team while collaborating across departments. This role will report to the Senior Director of Finance.

In addition to our eCommerce business, we mail millions of catalogs a year, participate in the Amazon marketplace, and place direct-response advertisements in leading print publications nationwide. Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Accounting: Lead month-end close processes, including review of reconciliations and journal entries (cash, prepaid expenses, payroll, accruals, etc.). Analyze financial and cost data across balance sheet and income statement accounts. Prepare audit-ready supporting schedules for quarterly and year-end external audits.
  • Cost Analysis and Cash: Oversee cash audits and applications, ensuring accurate reporting and reconciliation. Manage customer liability accounts. Responsible for cost validation and analysis on inventory purchases including process improvements.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and develop a team of accountants with an emphasis on professional development. Guide the finance team on technical accounting issues and compliance with policies. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead cross-functional projects focused on automation, efficiency, and scalability. Contribute to department and organization special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA or MBA preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, with proficiency in GAAP and audit preparation
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a fast-paced accounting department
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate across departments and levels of the organization
