Job description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timely, efficient operation of the Company’s accounting processes. This role serves as a hands‑on, working leader, combining team leadership with direct involvement in product costing, financial reporting, and process improvement.

The Accounting Manager owns key components of day‑to‑day accounting operations and execution of the monthly close, while partnering with the Director of Finance on internal controls and financial reporting, and ensuring the completeness and accuracy of financial data.

Duties/Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Close
  • Lead execution of the monthly close, ensuring accurate and timely completion
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and financial data
  • Serve as a key contact for accounting‑related issues
  • Maintain accurate product costing aligned with operations
  • Analyze labor, material, and overhead costs to identify trends and variances
  • Provide analysis and insights to support pricing decisions and profitability evaluation
  • Support improvements to costing methodologies to enhance visibility into cost drivers
  • Lead, develop, and manage accounting staff (AP, AR, staff accountants) fostering accountability and continuous improvement
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards
  • Recruit, hire, and conduct performance evaluations
  • Provide coaching and development to build a high‑performing team
  • Partner cross‑functionally to drive alignment and business understanding
  • Model the Company’s core values in leadership and day‑to‑day interactions
  • Prepare and contribute to the review of monthly financial statements in compliance with GAAP and company policies
  • Perform variance analysis and identify key drivers of financial performance
  • Drive timely and accurate reporting to support Finance and leadership
Process Improvement & Lean Focus
  • Identify and drive process improvements using Lean principles (waste reduction, standardization, continuous improvement)
  • Reduce manual processes and improve efficiency across accounting workflows
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and documentation
  • Support improvements related to policy, governance, and internal controls
Compliance, Controls & Governance
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
  • Support audit preparation and coordination
  • Maintain and strengthen policies and governance practices
Systems, Data & Automation
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency of financial data across systems
  • Assist in improving reporting efficiency and reducing manual data processes
  • Support implementation and optimization of financial systems and tools
  • Leverage technology, including AI and automation tools, to improve efficiency
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
Knowledge
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and taxation
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (NetSuite preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Understanding of manufacturing accounting transactions, including inventory valuation, standard costing, bills of material, labor and material variances, and cost of goods sold

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 3+ years of management and leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CPA‑track preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Lean principles, Lean accounting, or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience improving processes, systems, and reporting efficiency
  • Experience leveraging AI or automation tools to improve accounting workflows
