National Interstate Insurance Company invites motivated students to join its Internship Program in Richfield, Ohio for Summer 2027. As an Accounting Intern, you will support entry-level accounting tasks, journal entries, and reconciliations while gaining exposure to treasury and financial reporting processes.

The role focuses on hands-on experience in prepaid assets, fixed assets, and statutory reporting tasks within a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Accounting.
• Anticipated graduation date Fall/Winter 2027 to Spring 2028.
• Experience with basic accounting tasks is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with entry-level accounting tasks (prepaid assets, fixed assets, other assets, other liabilities).
• Prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliations.
• Support banking and treasury functions, including tracking cash balances across accounts.

The role will be expected to work in the Richfield, Ohio office.Essential Job Functions and ResponsibilitiesAs an Accounting Intern, you will be responsible for assisting in and undertaking entry level accounting tasks such in areas such as prepaid assets, fixed assets, other assets, other liabilities, while also completing applicable journal entries and account reconciliations. Desirable candidates will be able to effectively:Assist with certain daily banking and treasury management functions, including tracking cash balances in both operating and deposit accounts and recording transfer cash activityAssist in certain Investment accounting and reporting areas by completing tasks such as posting transactions and income in the investment accounting systemComplete various reinsurance reconciliations and reinsurance billings and payments in the accounting areaAssist with various SEC reporting responsibilities including XBRL tagging and proofreading quarterly 10-Q and earnings releaseAssist with statutory loss reporting on one of the four statutory insurance companies (Part 3 Loss and Expense Reserves Schedule)Assist with statutory investment reporting on one of the four statutory insurance companies (Schedule DA)Provide analyses and reports to management as requestedPerform other duties/ad hoc tasks as assignedJob RequirementsCurrently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university pursuing a degree in Accounting.Anticipated graduation date ranging from Fall/Winter 2027 to Spring 2028.Company:NIIC National Interstate Insurance CompanyBenefits:We offer competitive benefits packages for full-time and part-time employees*.
