Job summary

Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC invites energetic accounting interns to join its internship program in Albany, GA. Selected candidates must be currently enrolled in college with a major in accounting, and will work on audits, management services, or tax return preparation for tax clients.

Intern duties cover assisting with internal controls, preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and supporting senior staff on tax issues while meeting deadlines and developing professional skills.

Qualifications

• Well-rounded knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS).
• Working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws and regulations for tax return preparation.
• Awareness of current developments in the accounting profession.
• Ability to speak and write effectively.
• Professional appearance in attitude, dress, poise and conduct.
• Establishing a practice of accuracy with numeric and alphabetic information.
• Develop proficiency in use of available resources (e.g., Firm manuals, computer software).

Responsibilities

• Assist with the study and evaluation of internal accounting controls.
• Test compliance with internal controls when evaluation shows they can be relied upon if they are working.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Examine client reconciliations of bank accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Examine client reconciliations of subsidiary accounts to controls.
• Schedule computations of accruals and document the underlying support for those accruals.
• Prepare a schedule of write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
• Review data input, identifying and resolving technical tax issues, and assisting in the review of tax preparations.
• Identifying, researching, and assessing various tax issues while providing information to senior staff.
• Meet deadlines for completion of tax returns and other projects as assigned.
• Additional duties as assigned.
