Job summary

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Manager of Accounting to lead the university's accounting and financial reporting functions. The role drives financial integrity, supports academic and administrative leadership, and develops a small, high-performing accounting team.

Responsibilities include managing close processes, audits, tax returns, and policy development while ensuring GAAP compliance, internal controls, and effective collaboration across campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
• 5+ years of broad-based accounting experience.
• Experience supervising accounting and clerical staff.
• Higher education and/or not-for-profit accounting experience preferred.
• Solid knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and analysis.
• Experience leading the development and implementation of new processes.
• Proficient with accounting ERP systems and Microsoft products.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting, close processes, and financial reporting with reconciliations. Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and resolve issues.
• Manage banking, accounts payable, and post-grant accounting and administration; collaborate with other departments.
• Recommend accounting and financial reporting improvements to use systems effectively while maintaining strong internal controls.
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures for accounting, reporting, and financial operations.
• Maintain the accounting and financial operations system including set-up, testing, reporting, and issue resolution; understand related systems.
• Plan and manage external financial audits; serve as liaison to external audit team across campus.
• Plan and manage preparation of annual tax returns with external tax provider.
• Develop and lead a small high-performing team, including recruiting, training, and management.
