Job summary

Sinte Gleska University seeks a faculty member in accounting to teach courses, develop curricula, and engage with Lakota students and the community. The role includes teaching multiple courses per year, advising students, and participating in university committees.

Qualifications

  • Eighteen semester hours of undergraduate or graduate accounting courses.
  • Masters degree in Accountancy or equivalent.
  • PA or CPA.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with two or more years of experience in an accounting capacity.
  • Experience is preferred in working with Native American students.
  • Familiarity with reservation government and business is preferred.
  • Faculty members work in a team oriented department and engage collegially with colleagues, staff and administration.
  • Cultural competencies with Lakota and Native American people and organizations within reservation boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a minimum of four courses each Fall and Spring with at least three preparations (Principles, Cost, Intermediate, Tax, Municipal and Governmental Accounting).
  • Prepare and teach required hours per semester, including one class in the summer as per contract.
  • Assist in curriculum planning, development and scheduling for Business Management.
  • Design, prepare, instruct, supervise in-person and online classes and related responsibilities.
  • Assess student performance, including tests, papers, and reporting grades.
  • Maintain 15 office hours per semester.
  • Advise students and participate in registration and academic advisement.
  • Engage in department and university functions, committees and assignments.
  • Conduct in-house and community seminars and training for job upgrade.
  • Respect policies and maintain FERPA/HIPAA confidentiality.

Education

Eighteen semester hours of accounting courses
Masters degree in Accountancy or equivalent
PA or CPA
Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 2+ years experience
Experience with Native American students
Familiarity with reservation government and business

Job Summary

All full-time faculty members have a responsibility to activelyparticipatein an institution of higher learning to benefit and engage with students and colleagues in realizing the mission of Sinte Gleska University. This participation manifests in scholarship, service, and teaching.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • To teach a minimum of four (4)coursesboth Fall and Spring semesters, with a minimum of three (3)preparations.This includes courses in: Principles, Cost, Intermediate, Tax,Municipaland Governmental Accounting.
  • Prepare and teach the required hours/semester for the academic year, with one class in the summer as per contract.
  • Involvement andassistin curriculum planning,developmentand schedulingfor Business Management.
  • Classroom design, preparation, instruction, supervision, and other associated responsibilities, both in-person and in an online virtual classroom setting.
  • Assessment of student performance, including the preparation, administration, grading, and evaluation of tests, papers, andexaminationsand the reporting of grades.
  • Maintain 15 office hours persemester.
  • Advise students and participate in the registration process as assigned.Conferences with, and academicadvisement of, students outside of their registration needs.
  • Keep current and professionally engaged inareaofexpertise.
  • Engage with SGU functions such as departmental responsibilities,committeeassignments, and other assignmentsin accordance withdepartment and/or universitymission.
  • Conduct in-house and community seminars and short training sessions onvarious topics,conductive tojobupgrade, limited to the excess working time after the above responsibilities have been fulfilled.
  • Respect and adhere to other departmental/college/ internet service provider’s acceptable use policies.
  • Along with support from peers and university mentors,utilizeinnovative and culturally responsive pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Input into theselectionand procurement of textbooks, and other materials for classroom or laboratory use.
  • Other duties as assigned in the performance of his/her responsibilities and as mutually agreed upon to the benefit of Sinte Gleska University.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Facultymustpossessat leasteighteen (18) semester hours of undergraduate or graduate accounting courses.

In addition, the applicant must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Masters degree in Accountancy or equivalent.
  • Be a PA or CPA.
  • Bachelorsdegreein Accounting with two or more years of experience working inaaccounting capacity.
  • Experience is preferred in working with Native American students.
  • Familiarity withreservationgovernment and business is preferred.
  • Facultymembersworkinateam orienteddepartment and engage collegially with colleagues,staffandmemberof administration.
  • Facultymustpossessculturalcompetencieswithreferencetoworking withLakotaandNativeAmericanpeopleandrespectiveorganizationswithinreservation boundaries.
