Qualifications

  • Willing to work on-site in Washington, D.C. Metro Area as client needs arise.
  • CPA candidate or CPA eligibility highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in pre-audit planning for engagements.
  • Review client accounting and internal control procedures.
  • Execute day-to-day accounting and audit activities at the engagement.
  • Assist in performing audit procedures to determine design & operating effectiveness of controls.
  • Draft and prepare project deliverables.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Balance multiple projects concurrently and share knowledge with the team.

Kearney & Company is seeking Accounting Associates to join our team! Specifically seeking future or recent graduates majoring in Accounting or Double Major/ Concentration in Accounting, Information Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Systems (or other synonym for IT related major), Business Administration with a major/concentration in Accounting. This position is a great entry‑level opportunity for new graduates who want hands‑on audit, Accounting, Consulting experience working with federal government agencies throughout the United States.

LOCATION(s): Washington DC Metro Area

  • Work location may be in the office, but because we are a client facing organization, typically you can expect to be at client sites.
  • Travel opportunities may be presented (depending on client to client)
  • Work schedules and client needs vary from engagement to engagement and is always subject to change.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in pre‑audit planning for engagements
  • Responsible for reviewing client accounting and operating procedures, as well as systems of internal control.
  • Execute the day‑to‑day accounting and audit activities of the engagement and conduct fieldwork daily.
  • Assist in performing audit procedures to determine the design and operating effectiveness of the controls, performing risk assessments.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of accounting and auditing concepts and apply them to client situations.
  • Foster an efficient, innovative, and team‑oriented work environment
  • Demonstrate awareness and knowledge of Federal Government’s financial and management responsibilities.
  • Assist in drafting and preparing project deliverables.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects concurrently.
  • Utilize technology to share knowledge with team members, develop skills, and continually learn.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and competence in the client’s environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in Accounting or Double Major/ Concentration in Accounting, Information Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Systems (or other synonym for IT related major), Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.
  • Willing to work on‑site in Washington, D.C. Metro Area as client‑based needs arise.
  • Ability to travel at least 25%, barring any travel restrictions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an interim U.S. Secret security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • CPA candidate or eligibility to sit for CPA certification is highly desirable.

The expected salary range for this position is between $60,000 and $78,000. This range is representative of base pay only and does not include straight time pay for hours worked over 40 per week, company contributions towards paid benefits, and/or bonuses. Actual compensation (meeting or exceeding the range) will be determined based on specific experience, education, work location, clearance level, and other factors permitted by law. This position is eligible for bonuses (when applicable).
