Job summary

Sleek in the UK is seeking a detail-oriented bookkeeper to manage UK client accounts. You will handle Xero ledgers, VAT returns under UK rules, and draft year end accounts, growing to CT600s with Senior Accountant oversight. Remote-friendly, with a focus on accuracy and timely delivery.

You will work in a pod supporting 300–500 UK clients by 2027, collaborating with a UK-based Senior Accounts Manager and the broader Sleek team.

Qualifications

• Degree in commerce, accounting or finance.
• 2+ years in accounting with UK clients experience.
• Proficiency with Xero or QuickBooks/cloud accounting tools.
• Excellent written English for UK clients.

Responsibilities

• Keep client books up to date in Xero; reconciliations, ledgers, month/year end adjustments.
• Prepare VAT returns under MTD for UK clients.
• Draft year end accounts and CT600s as you grow.

Mission of the role

Prepare bookkeeping, VAT returns and draft year end accounts for UK small business clients. You work in a pod of five led by a UK-based Senior Accounts Manager: two senior accountants, two accountants and a bookkeeper, serving around 300 UK small business clients from January and growing to around 500 through 2027. Until the manager starts in January, you work in one of our existing UK teams. A Senior Accountant reviews your work. Your work is on time and right the first time, and as you grow you take on year end accounts and corporation tax returns.

What you’ll do

• Keep clients’ books up to date in Xero: bank reconciliations, sales and purchase ledgers, and month and year end adjustments.
• Prepare VAT returns under Making Tax Digital for review.
• Prepare draft year end accounts and, as you grow, corporation tax returns.
• Check your own work before sending it for review, and act on corrections.
• Chase clients early for missing records, and tell your Senior Accountant in good time when a deadline is at risk.
• Keep client records and workflow data accurate.
• Use the AI tools we are building into our products and workflow

Key outcomes in the first 6–12 months

• Your bookkeeping and VAT returns are ready for review before their deadlines, with client delays chased early and recorded.
• Your work needs fewer review rounds, measured from when you start.
• By month 12, you prepare draft year end accounts and CT600s for review, not just bookkeeping and VAT.
• Workflow data for your clients is accurate and up to date.

Must-have experience

• A degree in commerce, accounting or finance (for example B.Com or BS Accountancy).
• At least 2 years in accounting, including at least 1 on UK clients: bookkeeping, bank reconciliations and VAT returns.
• Confident with Xero, QuickBooks or a similar cloud accounting package.
• Written English good enough to email UK clients directly.
• Based in India or the Philippines, with the right to work there.
• Able to work a shift that overlaps UK business hours.

• Has prepared draft UK year end accounts or CT600s

The interview process

• TA Screening Call: A 30 minute call with our Talent Acquisition team
• Live Technical Assessment: A ~60–90 minute live skills test to assess your hands‑on bookkeeping capability.
• Technical Interview : A 45 - 60 minute interview with the Accounting manager who will assess your technical skills.
• Soft Skills Interview: A ~15-30 minute interview with the hiring team to evaluate real‑world work scenarios against our core behavioural values.
• Reference Verification: Prior to final offer confirmation, we will conduct one professional reference check with your recent direct manager or supervisor. To keep the process moving smoothly, this step may be initiated during the final interview stages.
