Job summary

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking an Accountant Trainee in San Luis Obispo County for a 12‑month limited term assignment with potential extension. The role focuses on gaining strong knowledge of accounting practices, policies and procedures within the Accounting Office, and includes interaction with Trust/Support functions and related duties.

The position is in-office at California Men's Colony with standard hours, and may be extended or converted to

Job Description And Duties
Under direct supervision of the Senior Accounting Officer (Supervisor), the Accountant Trainee shall attain a strong knowledge of practices, policies and procedures of the Accounting Office. Duties include the ability to review information and process data, according to the applicable rules and procedures of the Trust/Support functions of the Accounting Office The ability to accurately record, receipt, track and log paperwork, forms and other information is essential. Additional duties and functions may be assigned as needed. The Accountant Trainee shall attain knowledge of all Support and Trust functions of the Accounting Office. See attached duty statement.
Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. Applicants who completed their education outside of the US (with foreign degrees/transcripts) must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency. Foreign education credential evaluation services can be found at NACES | National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
