Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience.

  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office; familiarity with accounting software.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

This is a highly responsible administrative position within the Finance Department with a wide variety of duties pertaining to the financial operations, budget performance, reporting, coordinating and assisting with the daily activities of the finance office and special projects, including the upkeep of financial records and handling of internal and external customer inquiries made to the County Finance Department. Internal Audit planning, processing and reporting. Work is performed under limited supervision.

Major Essential Duties
  • Assist Finance Director with the preparation and maintenance of county budget records, appropriation ledger and other books of account.
  • Analyze and prepare monthly, quarterly, annual and/or specialized reports as needed.
  • Assist with financial forecasting; cash flow analysis and specialized research regarding finances as needed.
  • Ensures proper processing and accounting of all disbursements.
  • Work cooperative and collaboratively with other unit managers to resolve difficulties affecting departmental financial operations.
  • Reconciliation of various bank accounts monthly.
  • Ensures the proper processing and posting of all receipts.
  • Assist with the planning, preparation and completion of the annual audit.
  • Participates in meetings, seminars and training as needed or assigned.
  • Monthly sales tax preparation and review
  • Fixed assets tracking/recording, reporting and audit preparation
  • Financial software – Open Gov implementation assistance and compliance
  • Work with the County Administrator and Finance Director to develop and implement an internal audit plan and scheduled reviews.
Minor Essential Duties
  • Performs the duties of other positions in the finance unit and data processing unit as required.
  • Responsible for collecting, counting, depositing and recording daily receipts from various county departments, in the absence of staff accountant(s).
  • Special Projects as assigned.
Relationships
  • This person works under the supervision of the Finance Director and County Administrator for internal audit functions
Requirements
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
  • Graduation of a four-year college or university with degree in accounting or any combination of experience and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities.
Language Skills
  • Good verbal skills, ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, peers, management and the public; ability to provide clear, easily understood explanations and directions.
  • Good writing skills; ability to prepare clear and concise letters, memos, report, et al
  • Ability to read and comprehend written reports, letters, instructions, legal laws
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and statistics as needed.
Reasoning Skills
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of complex and technical information, and instructions. Ability to solve practical problems, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, and government regulations. Ability to respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints from the public, business community and regulatory agencies.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • CPA, Preferred
Other Knowledge and/or Skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with coworkers, peers and management.
  • Basic knowledge of management skills required planning the daily work and organizing resources to obtain desired goals.
  • Ability to work effectively daily with limited supervision.
  • Advanced computer skills, proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to train individuals in the use of the computer software system, including the creation and documentation of policies and procedures within the departmental function.
  • Good interpersonal and people skills and comfortable working within a team environment.

Schedule
  • Full-time opportunity (40 hours per week) but can be flexible with hours for individuals looking for a part-time role.
