Job summary

Sonoco, a Hartsville, SC-based global packaging leader, seeks a Senior Accountant to support controllership, month-end close, and plant-level accounting. You’ll manage AP/AR, GL, cost accounting, and ensure accurate transactions across Navision and Oracle systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with accounting/finance emphasis; or equivalent.
• 3–5 years’ experience with exposure to accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Excellent Excel skills and IT systems knowledge (Navision/Oracle/Microsoft Office).
• Strong analytical capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform plant-level accounting activities ensuring accurate daily functions.
• Complete daily AP and customer invoicing processes.
• Execute timely month-end close procedures.
• Prepare and review GL and subsidiary ledgers for accuracy.
• Ensure Navision and Oracle systems stay in sync.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and support audits.
• Support cost accounting, variance analysis, BOM updates.
• Track capital expenditures and maintain asset register.
• Assist in monthly/weekly forecast and annual budget.
• Maintain up-to-date accounting knowledge and professionalism.
• Other duties as assigned.

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Controllership, you will support accounting and business policies and procedures, be involved with preforming monthly close tasks, maintaining plant financial processes, and preparing summary reports that help drive business decisions.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Performing and monitoring fundamental accounting activities at the plant level to ensure that the company’s daily accounting functions run accurately and effectively.
• Completing the daily accounts payable and customer invoicing processes.
• Executing month-end closing procedures in a timely manner.
• Preparing and reviewing general ledger and subsidiary ledgers transactions to ensure accuracy and proper accounting treatment.
• Supporting processes to ensure two financial systems are in sync (Navision ERP system and Oracle financials system).
• Preparing balance sheet reconciliations as assigned, promote strong internal controls and provide support during all audits, assist with inventory reporting including annual physical inventories.
• Supporting cost accounting functions which include periodic costing system updates, analyze monthly standard cost variances, and work with the plant to ensure BOM/routing updates are made as needed.
• Involved in tracking capital expenditures and assist with maintaining the asset register and ensure that plant assets are reviewed annually and assist in preparation and review of monthly/weekly forecast, quarterly forecasts, and the annual budget.
• Stay up to date with accounting concepts, practices, and procedures and maintain a professional level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
• Other duties as assigned.

This is a hybrid position at our Corporate Headquarters in beautiful Hartsville, SC and may also be considered for our Charlotte, NC office. We are close to exciting destinations (Myrtle Beach, SC Charleston, SC, Columbia, SC and Charlotte, NC).

We’d Love To Hear From You If

• You have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting or finance, or equivalent.
• You have a 3-5 years’ experience with exposure to accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• You have an excellent Excel skills and general IT systems knowledge (Microsoft Navision/Microsoft Office/Query/Oracle).
• You have a strong analytical capabilities.

Compensation

This is a progression position, and can be a Level III, IV, or Senior, depending on experience and business needs. The annual base salary range for this role is as follows:

• Accountant III - The annual base salary range for this role is from $77,440 to $87,120.
• Accountant IV - The annual base salary range for this role is from $88,000 to $99,000.
• Senior Accountant -The annual base salary range for this role is from $104,800 to $117,900, plus annual target bonus of 7.5% of base salary.
