Under the direct supervision of the assigned supervisor , analyze financial data including budgets, financial reporting, general ledger accounts, and cash requirements and assist with development of recommendations for internal controls in accordance with policies and procedures. Maintain and control complex fiscal accounting for various funds and accounts using fund accounting for state and local governments.ESSENTIAL DUTIES.Prepare a number of internal financial reports.Analyze and review complex statements , reports and contracts.Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules.Perform or review calculations for fixed assets and inventory in accordance with established formula, as assigned.Perform research and prepares reports for special projects.Review budgets for accuracy in coding.Review revenues, expenditures, petty cash, budgets, and trial balances and reports any discrepancies to assigned supervisor.Assist in the design and development of new or improved accounting practices that will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.Assist the department with monitoring of internal controls, internal auditing, and ensuring proper postings and compliance with financial procedures.Perform duties of staff positions to ensure continuity of work, as directed.May be required to make or assist in public presentations and set priorities for tasks. Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and submission of all required reports.Assist with gathering information for the annual audit requests, preparation of audited Financial Statements, General Ledger Accounting, reports for special projects including required research, preparation/reviews of journal entries and miscellaneous accounting work/reconciliations.After implementation of new Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) Statements by the Controller, perform routine calculations for new and previous GASB Statements each year.Perform or review Accounts Receivable for Accounting and Reporting.ADDITIONAL DUTIES . Other duties may be assigned.QUALIFICATIONS.A. Education. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Master of Accountancy or MBA preferred.B. Experience. Four (4) years of increasingly responsible accounting work experience. Experience in governmental accounting preferred.C. Education/Experience substitution . N/AD. Licenses/Certifications. Certified Public Accountant, Certified Government Financial Manager, or Certified Management Accountant is preferred.E. Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver's license record, etc.). Must pass a background and credit check.KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITI ON:Must have knowledge of : Applicable laws and administrative policies governing financial operations of the County; generally accepted accounting principles; advanced computer operations including word processing and spreadsheets; methods to maintain accurate records.Must have skills in : Analyze and evaluate information accurately.Must have ability to : Express ideas clearly; handle sensitive and confidential matters; use initiative and independent judgment while recognizing when it is appropriate to refer matters to management; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.Compensation Range$60,902.40 - $99,340.80Doña Ana County is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
