Job summary

Essential Utilities, Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an Accountant III to perform highly complex accounting focused on the revenue cycle and bad debts, supporting GAAP and regulatory financial reporting.

You will provide audit support and perform account analyses, research, and reconciliations. You will close monthly, quarterly, and annual books, prepare revenue entries and analyses, and collaborate with operations and IT for process improvements.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in accounting or finance required.
• 3–5 years of related experience.
• CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close procedures for revenue, including journal entries, analyses, reconciliations, and reports.
• Support preparation of GAAP financial statements (parent and stand-alone).
• Assist with regulatory reporting – PUC, EIA and AGA.
• Provide audit support for external, internal, and regulatory needs.
• Maintain control documentation for revenue processes and improve internal controls.
• Collaborate with operations management and IT on process improvements.
• Participate in or manage ad-hoc revenue accounting projects.
• Interact with internal customers and business groups on initiatives.

Accountant III - Pittsburgh, PA

Under limited supervision, performs moderately to highly complex accounting activities focusing on the revenue cycle and bad debts, supports GAAP and regulatory financial reporting, provides audit support and performs account analyses, research and reconciliations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close procedures for revenue, including preparation of revenue‑related journal entries, account analyses, reconciliations, and reports.
• Support preparation of parent and stand‑alone GAAP financial statements.
• Support rate case filing and regulatory reporting – PUC, EIA and AGA.
• Provide external, internal and regulatory audit support.
• Maintain control documentation for revenue related processes and participate in enhancements of accounting processes and internal controls.
• Collaborate with operations management and IT for process improvements.
• Participate in or manage ad‑hoc projects related to revenue accounting and reporting.
• Interact with internal customers and business groups on ad‑hoc initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

• BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 3‑5 Years of related experience.
• CPA preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Solid knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems with strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, and SAP ERP software).
• Good problem assessment and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal, communication (oral and written), teaming, and organizational skills.
• Strong customer focus and ability to lead others.
• Exceptional ability to analyze financial data and prepare accounting reports.
• Ability to produce and manage several projects in a quality and timely manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
