Responsibilities
Overview

The College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University seeks a detail-oriented and collaborative Accountant I to provide entry level accounting and financial support across multiple academic and administrative units within the college. This position will play a critical role in supporting the college's financial operations by processing, reviewing, and monitoring a variety of financial transactions while ensuring compliance with university policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards.

Approximately 60% of the position's responsibilities will support College of Liberal Arts Finance operations, with the remaining 40% dedicated to financial operations primarily within the Department of English and other designated academic departments as assigned.

The Accountant I will serve as a key financial resource for departments across the college and contribute to the effective stewardship of university resources through transaction review, compliance monitoring, reconciliation, reporting, and customer service.

Budgeted Salary Range for This Position: $52,320–$61,040 Annually

Responsibilities
Financial Transaction Processing & Review
  • Process and review travel vouchers and employee reimbursement requests.
  • Manage purchase card (P-Card) transactions and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Support financial approval workflows and review transactions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Process salary and wage transfers and related financial adjustments.
  • Review invoices for funding availability, policy compliance, and payment accuracy.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Assist with quarterly financial reporting, reconciliation, and budget monitoring activities.
  • Monitor financial transactions and documentation to ensure compliance with university policies and financial regulations.li>
  • Support departmental financial operations through the application of accounting principles and governmental accounting standards (GASB).
  • Maintain accurate financial records and assist in identifying and resolving transaction discrepancies.
Departmental Financial Support
  • Serve as the primary financial contact for assigned departments within the College of Liberal Arts.
  • Respond to financial inquiries and provide guidance regarding university fiscal policies and procedures.
Operational Support
  • Collaborate with the College's finance team to support effective financial management and reporting.
  • Assist with special projects and other accounting-related duties as assigned.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts designed to strengthen operational efficiency and financial compliance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or a degree in a business-related field plus a CPA (licensed as a Certified Public Accountant).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with higher education or governmental accounting.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
  • Experience processing travel reimbursements, procurement transactions, financial reporting, or reconciliation activities.
  • Familiarity with enterprise financial systems and reporting tools.
