Job summary

MEMPHIS LIGHT GAS & WATER seeks an Accountant 4 to perform advanced accounting duties, including resolving system problems and leading large assignments. The role involves developing PC applications for operations and integrating mainframe systems with general ledger processes.

Requirements include a Bachelor's in Accounting along with 5 years of accounting experience with CPA or 8 years accounting experience.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Research/resolve system problems such as posting from Accounts Payable, Payroll, MIS and CAS to general ledger.
• Act as Project Leader on large assignments by scheduling, assigning, reviewing/performing the work of lower-level Accountants as needed.
• Develop/enhance complex PC applications for departmental operations and technical analysis such as downloading, forecasting, modeling and sub-ledger design; integrate mainframe accounting and control systems such as position control, on-line budget, closing and general ledger.
• Verify journal entries and invoices for reimbursable construction projects, overhead rates and other items.
• Perform federal tax research pertaining to tuition reimbursements, automobile allowance, employee benefits, FICA taxes and other items.
• Keep abreast of and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards/regulations and the availability of new software applications.
• Prepare various reports and special studies as required.
• Perform other duties as directed.

EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE

• Must have 5 years accounting experience with CPA or 8 years accounting experience.
• Must have a P2 rating for 2 consecutive years as a level III or a P1 rating in last year as a level III.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Must have an occupationally significant combination of ability to concentrate for long periods; organizational ability; speed and accuracy in making numerical determinations; memory for detail; analytical skills; and ability to apply principles of accounting, statistics and fiscal management.
• Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence.
• Works in office under good conditions.
• Occasional field analysis for inventory, research and/or to solve problems.
