The University of Miami is seeking an Accountant 3 - Central to maintain financial records and ensure transactions are accurately recorded, reconciling subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.
This role supports ERP audits and year-end statements, prepares balance sheets and income statements, analyzes costs and revenues, and mentors lower-level accountants while upholding university policies and confidentiality.
The Accountant 3 - Central maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded. This position safeguards the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
1. Prepares complex balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. 2. Analyzes current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses. 3. Oversees, mentors, and assists lower-level accountants. 4. Avoids legal challenges by complying with legal requirements. 5. Protects the organization's value by keeping information confidential. 6. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. 7. Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information. 8. Creates financial reports for taxes, regulatory agencies, and stockholders. 9. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant field required
Certification and Licensing: Not required.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The Sr. Accountant assists the Accounting Manager with the Employee Retirement Plan (ERP) audits and Form 5500 tax returns. The Sr. Accountant is involved in the year-end footnotes as it relates to investments. Ensures an effective and efficient workflow, identifies and assists in implementing opportunities for improvement, and ensures compliance with accounting standards and university policy. Reviews investments and limited partnership agreements, and interprets transactions in a clear and concise manner.
