Job summary

University of California Office of the President is seeking an Accountant to support a range of accounting functions for UC Health. You will ensure payments align with budgets and UC policies, under the supervision of the Finance Manager for UC Health.

The role requires GAAP knowledge, fund accounting experience, and strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a hybrid Oakland-based setting.

Job description

Position Summary

The University of California (UC) is the designated institution responsible for administering state funding to increase and sustain graduate medical education (GME) across California. Working under the supervision of the Finance Manager for the systemwide office of UC Health (UCH) at the UC Office of the President, the Accountant will support a range of accounting functions, ensuring financial transactions align with budget and comply with UC policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor spending and ensure compliance with annual grant, program, and departmental budgets (40%).
  • Prepare journal entries and Intercampus Transfer of Funds requests (20%).
  • Review and reconcile account balances, preparing reconciliation reports (10%).
  • Prepare and review purchase requisitions in accordance with procurement policies (10%).
  • Assist with audit documentation (10%).
  • Recommend and implement process improvements, assist with new systems and special projects (10%).
Required Qualifications
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP, fund accounting, and financial systems including financial report preparation, reconciliation, and internal controls.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), ERP systems, and common desktop/web tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to independently gather required information, analyze data, and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to interpret complex policies and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Accounting experience in higher education or the UC system.
  • Experience supporting restricted funds, grant‑related financial operations, or programmatic fund administration in a higher education or public sector environment.
  • Ability to manage a significant volume of transactions.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Financials.
  • Advanced degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or CPA certification.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Special Conditions

Some travel may be required. The position is based in Oakland, California, with a hybrid work schedule.

Salary and Benefits
