Job summary

Crawford Thomas Recruiting is seeking an experienced Accountant to join our Virginia, MN team. You will manage financial reporting, GL integrity, and audit preparation while partnering with bookkeepers and CSRs to ensure accuracy and compliance.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and is proficient with ERP systems and advanced Excel. CPA is preferred for potential higher compensation.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain financial statements and monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
• Perform account reconciliations and ensure the integrity of the general ledger.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
• Conduct internal audits and support external audit engagements.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
• Support tax preparation and coordinate with external tax advisors.
• Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

About The Opportunity
Our client, a leading fuel provider, is seeking an experienced Accountant to join its growing team in Virginia, MN.
This role is responsible for financial reporting, general ledger accuracy, audit preparation, regulatory compliance, and providing financial insights to leadership. The Accountant will also collaborate with bookkeepers and Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) to help ensure accurate financial data and maintain high standards of work quality.
What You'll Do

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
• Experience conducting or supporting financial audits
• Experience with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA designation
• Experience in the oil, propane, fuel distribution, or energy industry
• Public accounting experience
• Experience with financial statement preparation and regulatory compliance
• Knowledge of inventory accounting and cost accounting principles
• Experience implementing or improving accounting processes and internal controls
