Camden County Board of Commissioners seeks an Accountant in the Finance Department to support the county’s financial operations. The role involves posting revenue via cash receipting, reconciling accounts, handling fixed assets, and assisting with audits to ensure accuracy and GAAP compliance.
The position requires knowledge of accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to work with a team and external auditors. A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is expected.
This position performs accounting functions in support of the countys financial operations
Posts all revenue via cash receipting daily including Curbside Collections Two Rivers Gun Range Solid Waste and other cash receipts Audits accounts payable packets Records and tracks fixed assets Assists with the annual audit Submits quarterly GDOT requests for reimbursement Submits hotelmotel submissions quarterly for distribution Prepare SPLOST financial reports Inputs various journal entries into the financial system Reconciles fleet vehicle fuel usage Records and tracks impact fees as needed

The Finance Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions The supervisor spot checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results
Guidelines include GAAP internal control procedures relevant state and federal laws and county and department policies and procedures These guidelines require judgment selection and interpretation in application
The work consists of varied accounting duties Strict regulations and the need for accuracy contribute to the complexity of the position The purpose of this position is to provide financial accounting support for the countys financial operations Successful performance ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations
Contacts are typically with coworkers representatives of other government agencies bankers auditors vendors and the public contacts are typically to exchange information resolve problems and provide services

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field or an equivalent combination of education experience and training which provides the knowledge skills and abilities to perform the work Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeshipinternship or having had a similar position for one to two years
