Job summary

Clay is seeking an Accountant as a founding departmental hire, owning core accounting processes, supporting financial close, and strengthening internal controls in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

You will drive month‑end and year‑end close, journal entries, revenue recognition under GAAP, and system improvements, while partnering with operations and leadership on budgeting and ad‑hoc analyses. CPA with US GAAP ASC 606 knowledge and Big 4 startup experience are highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Own and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with timely reporting.
• Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules.
• Manage revenue recognition under GAAP for project-based engagements.
• Drive finance system implementations and automation of processes.
• Oversee accounts payable, accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets.
• Assist with cash flow management and forecasting.
• Prepare financial statements and internal management reports.
• Support annual audits, tax filings, and audits with external advisors.
• Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
• Partner with operations, finance, and leadership on budgeting and analyses.

As a founding departmental hire, the accountant will play a critical role in Clay’s accounting function, owning core accounting processes, supporting financial close, and improving internal controls and reporting. This role requires strong technical accounting expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment.

What You’ll Do

• Own and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Manage revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP, including project‑based and multi‑period engagements
• Drive finance system implementations and automation of process workflow
• Oversee accounts payable, accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets
• Assist with cash flow management and forecasting
• Prepare financial statements and internal management reports
• Support annual audits, tax filings, and coordination with external auditors and advisors
• Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
