Summary Description of Classification: Accountant handles the accounting functions for various programs of the District. Processes reports for Program Managers and Federal, Local, and State Agencies.

Minimum Qualification Standards

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of internal controls.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze organizational, management, and statistical information and to prepare clear, concise written and oral reports pertaining to this information.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting programs.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle deadlines.
  • Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with school employees, vendors, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform works requiring meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Skill in typing and/or operation of a computer keyboard.
  • Good mathematical/accounting skills.
  • Good organizational skills.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major in accounting.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the field of accounting.
  • Basic comprehension of computerized accounting systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, update, and modify procedures as needed.
  • Prepare schedule for external auditors for incorporation into their work files.
  • Reconcile bank statements.
  • Reconciliation of payroll deduction registers and backup to payroll depositories including submission of payroll taxes.
  • Monitor and resolve interfund payable and receivables.
  • Monthly/Yearly financial statement preparation and state reporting.
  • Process travel reimbursement forms.
  • Reconcile reports related to employee benefits/retirement and submit to vendors.
  • Reconcile prepaid expenses for travel and other payables.
  • Reconciliation and monitoring of interfund transactions and repayments.
  • Reconcile vendor credit card payments.
  • Prepare and submit monthly FFVP (Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Program claims.
  • Review and maintain monthly reports from Central Kitchen.
  • Prepare and enter journals for Transportation and fuel invoices.
  • Prepare payroll accruals.
  • Monitor and review requisitions in workflow.
  • Allocate School Nutrition revenue and expenses.
  • Prepare journal entries as needed.
  • Perform internal audit of school cash handling procedures.
  • Process reports for flex benefits and workers' compensation.
  • Provide support to other accounting staff, as necessary.
  • Stay up to date with GASB pronouncements.
  • Attend training as necessary and required.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
