Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and client-focused Employee Benefits Account Manager to join our team. This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day service needs of assigned client accounts, supporting plan design, administration, renewals, compliance, and acting as the primary contact between clients, carriers, and vendors.

  • Serve as the primary contact for clients on all employee benefits matters, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary benefits and financial products.
  • Manage the full client lifecycle, including onboarding, renewals, open enrollment, and ongoing support.
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers, vendors, and internal teams to resolve claims issues, billing discrepancies, and service requests.
  • Assist with benefits plan design, benchmarking, and financial analysis to support client decision-making.
  • Ensure client programs remain compliant with applicable laws and regulations (ACA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, employee communications, and enrollment materials.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and update benefits administration platforms/HRIS as needed.
  • Stay current on industry trends, legislative changes, and best practices in employee benefits.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Fully insured and/or Self Insured knowledge.
  • Microsoft Suite proficient
  • Strong skills in Excel is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Employee benefits laws (ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, FMLA, etc.)
    • Health and welfare plan designs
    • Open enrollment processes and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with:
    • Benefits administration platforms and HRIS systems
    • Strong Excel skills and data analysis for benefits cost modeling
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities for claims issues and plan design.
  • Communication skills to explain benefits clearly to clients and employees.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to adjust with a professional demeanor.
  • Able to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Comfortable presenting to executives, HR leaders and employees.
  • Negotiation skills for working with carriers and vendors.
  • Client-focused with a strong commitment to delivering excellent service.
  • Detail-oriented and analytical, with strong problem-solving abilities.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (in Business, Human Resources, Finance, or a related field) but definitely not required.
  • Some employers may accept equivalent work experience in benefits administration, insurance, or HR in place of a degree.
  • State insurance license (Life, Accident & Health) preferred.
  • Professional certifications can strengthen a candidate's profile.
  • Prior experience (3-7 years) in:
    • Employee benefits administration
    • Insurance brokerage or carrier account management of mid-market (1000+Ees)
    • HR benefits coordination
  • Professional experience with group health, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefits.
