Job description

Account Manager: Technology Practice

We’re looking for an Account Manager to join our growing B2B technology team. Working from either Boston or San Francisco, you will lead a distributed team that’s charged with crafting data‑driven campaigns for emerging and established tech brands. You’ll own some client relationships, and coach your team as they take on broader project and account management responsibilities. You’ll also be tapped to support new business pitches, working collaboratively with colleagues from SHIFT and across our network to develop and deliver killer proposals that win in the room.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Leading integrated communications plans and programs
  • Providing clients with strategic counsel, including recommendations for navigating the media, securing quality editorial opportunities and crafting messaging
  • Pitching top‑tier media, including business and mainstream press, with stories and client messaging that tie back to current events and socioeconomic trends
  • Ensuring your team’s work is client‑ and/or media‑ready before we press send
  • Collaborating with experts across the network who can strengthen your team’s efforts, and/or whom your team’s expertise can help strengthen theirs
  • Ensuring all clients are kept informed on emerging trends, actively engaged in our relationship and delighted with our work
  • Setting performance standards for your team and tackling performance issues quickly and empathically
  • Coaching and mentoring your team, and actively championing for their continued growth through professional development and relevant networking opportunities
  • Broadening our base of relationships within each client organization beyond the day‑to‑day PR teams
  • Contributing to SHIFT’s content engine to help cement SHIFT as voice of authority/credibility and you as a thought leader in the consumer behavior/experience space
What You Bring
  • BA or BS in PR, Communications, Journalism or Liberal Arts
  • Five‑to‑seven year track record of success and increasing responsibility in an agency or fast‑paced client environment (some agency experience is critical)
  • Demonstrable success in pitching and securing earned media opportunities in top‑tier media that align clients/companies with larger trends and world events
  • A natural digital‑ and mobile‑first mindset to all you do
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication
  • Interest and perspective on the world around you, especially on topics that are covered by today’s media (i.e. you read the news every day and continue to learn about important issues)
  • An insatiable curiosity combined with an innate ability to think critically that translates into creativity, founded in strategy, that you can apply to our programming day in and day out
  • Current knowledge of and comfort operating within and across the PESO media landscape
  • An ability to inspire those under and around you to work together and deliver stellar work
What It Takes To Succeed Here
  • Help us improve. Become fluent in the agency’s brand and business; familiarize yourself with our teams, clients, best case work and best proposals. See a missed opportunity along the way? Call it out. Share your thoughts. Make us better.
  • Know what’s going on – Read/watch/listen to and then analyze and report the news that’s important to you and your clients; provide recommendations for actions that the client can/should take as a result.
  • Have a point of view. We’re not looking for people who agree with everything we say. We’re looking for people who think independently, believe in things important to them and can bring and defend that passion to work with them every day.
  • Raise your hand. Don’t ever wait for someone to ask you to do something; ask what you can do to help your team, our clients and our agency succeed. Daily.
  • Live our values. Nothing is more important. We’ll hold you to that standard and you can hold us to that standard. It’s that simple.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation, cost of living increases & performance bonuses
  • Generous PTO package, paid holidays, summer hours
  • Annual paid recharge shutdown the last week of the year
  • Employee referral and new business incentive bonuses
  • Flexible hybrid work environment
  • Monthly cell phone stipend
  • 401k contribution that starts and vests 100% on day one
  • Comprehensive healthcare, dental & vision coverage
  • EAP that offers 24/7 access to Licensed Professional Counselors
  • Donation matching & PTO to volunteer in your community
  • Frequent opportunities for career advancement
  • Outings & celebrations
  • Flexible spending accounts (healthcare, dependent, commuter)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Disability and life insurance
  • Tuition reimbursement for ongoing education costs
  • Inclusive, flexible and supportive work environment
  • Recognition and celebration of professional wins and milestones

If you’ve got what it takes and are ready to take your career to the next level, we want to meet you.

US salary range: $85,000 USD - $95,000 USD
