Job summary

SBS Comms is seeking an Account Director for its OnBoard program to lead high‑impact PR for startup clients. You will manage senior client relationships, set PR priorities aligned with business goals, and guide multi‑discipline teams across campaigns and media outreach.

Ideal candidates bring 6+ years of PR experience, strong writing and leadership skills, and a proven track record of growing accounts. The role offers remote flexibility and a collaborative, fast‑paced culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in PR, communications, journalism or similar area.
• Experience leading PR accounts and teams preferred.
• Strong writing, storytelling and media relations skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as primary client lead and day-to-day lead on account teams.
• Develop informed media plans and campaigns from ideation to execution.
• Drive media results through outreach and creative story ideation.
• Produce and edit written content for clients.
• Lead and deliver client presentations and reporting.
• Support new business pitches, trainings, and events.
• Coach and mentor junior staff and conduct performance reviews.
• Advise on staffing to ensure account coverage and growth.
• Collaborate with VP on scope of work and budgets.

About OnBoard: OnBoard is SBS's dedicated program for early-stage startups. Our clients are often founders doing PR for the very first time, and they get the same caliber of counsel, creativity and media results as our established brands. At OnBoard, a smaller budget never means a lower bar. We're looking for a VP to help lead the program: a startup whisperer who knows what makes a founder and a company genuinely interesting and can get an unknown startup into the same conversations as the industry's biggest names.

Account Director, OnBoard Responsibilities

• Act as primary client lead, and day-to-day lead on account teams, setting the direction for the account and identifying PR priorities that directly map back to business objectives for our clients
• Lead the development of informed and targeted media plans and campaigns - from ideation to execution
• Drive media results through outreach and creative story ideation
• Produce and/or edit written content
• Lead and deliver client presentations - reporting, planning, etc.
• Support agency development projects - new business pitches, company trainings, team events, recruiting, etc.
• Coach and mentor internal team members, conducting annual performance reviews
• Makes recommendations on team staffing to ensure accounts have coverage and complementary skills
• Working with VP, support scope of work and budget conversations with clients

Account Director, OnBoard Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in PR, communications, journalism or similar area
• At least 6 years in-house or agency PR experience
• Demonstrated ability to grow accounts and build client relationships
• Demonstrated ability to drive meaningful media results
• Strong presentation and verbal communication skills
• Detail oriented and focus on setting and managing to a high bar
• A creative mindset
• Brilliant writing skills (we'll want to see samples)
• Experience or demonstrated readiness to supervise junior staff
• Self-starter work ethic and player-coach management style

Compensation decisions are determined using a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, and education or certifications. If we extend an offer for employment, we will consider all individual qualifications. Salary ranges for this position are between $115,000 and $140,000 annually. Strange Brew Strategies also offers additional compensation programs such as annual cash bonuses and generous benefits.
