Job description

Location: New York City

Industry: Fintech / Capital Markets / Data & Analytics / Trading Technology

Our client is a global financial technology company providing high-performance data, analytics and infrastructure to some of the world’s largest financial institutions.

The business has been operating in financial markets for decades and supports more than 300 financial-services customers globally, including major investment banks, hedge funds, exchanges, investment firms and other sophisticated market participants.

Its technology sits close to some of the most demanding trading, quantitative and data environments in global finance, helping firms process, analyse and act on large volumes of complex market data at speed.

The company is now entering an important phase of growth.

Alongside its established product suite, the business is investing heavily in next-generation analytical database technology, cloud and modern data ecosystems, GPU acceleration and emerging AI / agentic use cases.

It is now expanding its commercial team in New York and hiring an experienced Account Director to grow a portfolio of strategic financial-services customers across the region.

This is a quota-carrying individual-contributor role focused primarily on expanding existing enterprise relationships, identifying whitespace and driving meaningful commercial growth, while also developing strategically relevant new opportunities across the wider market.

What the role looks like:

  • Own and grow a portfolio of approximately 20–30 strategic financial-services customers
  • Identify whitespace and develop new opportunities across existing accounts
  • Lead renewals, upsells, commercial negotiations and broader account expansion
  • Develop new opportunities across strategically relevant financial institutions where appropriate
  • Build relationships across trading, quantitative, data, technology and investment teams
  • Engage stakeholders including Heads of Trading, Quant Researchers, Portfolio Managers, Heads of Market Data, Heads of Data, Data Science and AI Infrastructure leaders
  • Build credibility and relationships at both senior executive and technical levels
  • Develop multi-threaded relationships across complex enterprise accounts
  • Position new products and capabilities into established customer environments
  • Drive adoption of next-generation data and analytics technology across existing clients
  • Manage opportunities ranging from several hundred thousand dollars through to multi-million-dollar enterprise deals
  • Navigate complex sales cycles typically lasting around 8-9 months
  • Own commercial processes including discovery, negotiation and, where relevant, RFI/RFP activity
  • Partner closely with internal product, technical, solutions and commercial teams to move strategic opportunities forward
  • Maintain strong visibility across the New York market through regular customer meetings, industry events and face-to-face engagement

What they’re looking for:

  • 10+ years of enterprise sales experience, ideally selling complex technology into financial institutions
  • Strong track record in quota-carrying enterprise account management or strategic sales
  • Experience growing and expanding large financial-services accounts
  • Background selling capital-markets technology, market data, analytics, trading technology, data infrastructure or adjacent solutions
  • Experience selling into Front and Middle Office environments, particularly to trading, quantitative, market data, data or investment teams
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, trading workflows and the data challenges faced by sophisticated market participants
  • Ability to engage credibly with both C-suite decision-makers and technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to identify whitespace and turn established customer relationships into meaningful revenue growth
  • Experience managing complex enterprise renewals, upsells and commercial negotiations
  • Comfortable navigating large, multi-stakeholder organisations
  • Strong commercial judgement and ability to manage long, complex sales cycles
  • Consistent track record of meeting or exceeding quota
  • Strong senior relationships across financial markets are advantageous, although relevant domain expertise and sales execution remain more important than arriving with a large personal network
  • Comfortable operating with a high degree of ownership and autonomy
  • Based in or around New York City and comfortable spending significant time in the office and with customers

Why it’s interesting:

This is an opportunity to join a highly established capital-markets technology business at a point where the product suite and commercial opportunity are evolving quickly.

You’ll inherit a portfolio of major financial institutions rather than starting from zero, but there is significant whitespace across those relationships.

The business is actively moving customers onto its next generation of technology while developing new propositions around modern data infrastructure, GPU acceleration and AI-driven workflows, creating multiple new expansion opportunities within existing accounts.

The company combines the credibility and customer base of a long-established financial technology provider with a relatively flat, fast-moving operating environment.

Senior leadership remains highly accessible, decision-making is quick, and Account Directors are expected to take meaningful ownership of their territory rather than operate inside a heavily layered sales structure.

New joiners also receive a genuine ramp period, with the emphasis initially placed on understanding the territory, building customer relationships and developing pipeline before moving onto a full quota in the new financial year.

For someone with strong capital-markets sales experience who enjoys working with sophisticated customers, developing strategic relationships and uncovering large enterprise opportunities, it is a particularly attractive time to join.
