Job summary

Church of the Guardian Angels in Minnesota is seeking a talented pianist to accompany our adult choir of about 10 singers. The role requires bringing positivity and encouragement to rehearsals and worship, with Tuesday evenings 7:00–8:30 p.m. and Sunday mornings 8:00–10:30 a.m. to support the 9:00 a.m.

Mass. The choir begins in September and runs through Pentecost in late May. Compensation is $75 per hour. Be prepared, on time, and ready for all scheduled hours.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in piano accompanying liturgical music.
• Experience with church choirs and rehearsals.
• Familiarity with liturgical services and chorale presentation.

Responsibilities

• Be prepared, on time, and ready for all scheduled hours, to rehearse all liturgical music as provided by the Director of Music with the cantor and choir.
• Rehearse with the adult choir at scheduled rehearsal times prior to the scheduled Sunday liturgy, on Tuesday evenings, and as deemed necessary by the Director of Music.
• Arrive at church approximately 1 hour prior to Sunday Mass. Prepare and set up the piano area, then rehearse with the respective scheduled cantors and instrumentalists for the remainder of the time before Mass. After Mass, take up to fifteen minutes, when needed, to put music away and close down the piano area.
• Receive direction from the Director of Music regarding selected music, rehearsal time needed outside of group rehearsals, and the level and type of leadership needed as the accompanist to facilitate and ensure quality presentation of music.
• Help create an environment of harmony, good morale, adequate communication, and cooperation.
• Promote and support the goals and objectives of the Church of the Guardian Angels and the Church as a whole
• Respond to phone calls, e-mails, and other communications from the Director of Music, volunteer music ministry assistant, and presider.
• Occasionally, be available to provide musical piano accompaniment for once per month baptismal liturgies after our 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning Mass.

We are looking for a talented pianist with experience in accompanying our church choir. Our Adult Choir consists of about 10 people who would like to grow into something bigger and better. We need a person who can bring positivity and encouragement to our rehearsals.The typical hours for this position are Tuesday evenings, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. and Sunday mornings, 8:00 - 10:30 a.m. in order to accompany our choir at our 9:00 a.m. Mass. The choir starts in September, and is scheduled through Pentecost which is in late May this year.Wages will be calculated by the hour at $75 per hour, with Tuesday rehearsals being about an hour and a half and Sundays having at least a two-hour work schedule.
