Job summary

NeoGenomics is looking for an Accessioning Technician for our lab in Aliso Viejo, CA who will ensure proper handling of specimens received and prepare them for testing, including matching patient information, data entry, aliquoting, and scanning documents.

This is an entry-level position in Accessioning and is temporary-status, full-time, on a Tue-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm schedule and Saturdays 10:00am-6:30pm; the role is performed via a third-party agency.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting.
• Experience with a biosafety environment is preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office for data entry.

Responsibilities

• Receives and sorts specimens for testing.
• Reviews requisitions for missing information and coordinates with Client Services.
• Data entry into LIS, label samples, create folders, and generate travel docs.
• Assembles case paperwork and pre-analytic documentation.
• Performs add-on testing entries and coordinates split specimens.
• Ships specimens to reference laboratories and maintains logs.
• Performs QA checks and ensures chain of custody for slides/blocks.

Position Summary:

The Accessioning Technician will ensure proper handling of all specimens received and prepare specimens for laboratory testing. This position includes such functions as matching patient information, data entry, aliquoting, and scanning documents. This is entry level in the Accessioning job category, and employees perform the full range of specimen processing procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Receives and sorts specimens for testing
• Reviews all requisitions for missing information, works closely with Client Services to obtain missing information in a timely manner and distributes new information to all departments involved
• Timely and accurately enters data into LIS, label samples and create folders, generate specimen travel documents, and forwards respective sample to personnel/departments
• Assembles case paperwork and files, including pre-analytic documentation and labels
• Performs entry of add-on testing and coordinates split specimens
• Sends out specimens to appropriate reference laboratories by coordinating the shipment process, maintaining client communication, and generating the necessary logs
• Performs quality assurance checks of samples
• Utilize chain of custody logs for slides and blocks, ensure appropriate chain of custody for blocks and slides is followed. Oversee Q/C workflow and reconciliation of blocks and the block log
• Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required

Experience, Education and Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 1+ years of experience equivalent to an Accessioning Technician preferred
• Proficient with MS Office programs
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently
• Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards
• Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual.
