Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks a Document Accessibility Specialist to audit and remediate documents for accessibility across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF formats. The role partners with teams to embed accessible workflows and templates early in content lifecycles.

This is a full-time, temporary assignment with hybrid on-site work after an initial training period. Experience in remediation of electronic documents and familiarity with healthcare environments are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in communications, information technology, or technical writing.
  • Minimum 1–2 years remediating electronic documents (Word, PDF) for accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Audit and remediate electronic documents for accessibility issues per WCAG/ADA.
  • Create accessible source documents and deliverables in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF.
  • Tag and QA PDFs to ensure WCAG/ADA compliance; verify alignment with standards.
  • Perform manual testing plus automated checks with assistive tech.
  • Collaborate with content authors and cross-functional teams to prioritize remediation.
  • Develop accessible templates, checklists, SOPs, and training materials.
  • Track remediation inventory and turnaround times by document type.
  • Provide accessibility support for high-priority publications.
  • Stay current on evolving accessibility standards and tools.
