Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory's SSRL seeks an Accelerator Physicist to join the Accelerator Physics Group. The role focuses on maintaining and upgrading the SPEAR3 storage ring and its injector, and exploring design options for a next-generation light source for SSRL.

You will conduct accelerator physics measurements, run simulations, and pursue independent research while collaborating with photon scientists to strengthen the case for a new facility.

Qualifications

PhD in accelerator physics or related field or 4+ years of relevant experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of storage ring physics, beam optics and lattice design.
Hands-on accelerator expertise to diagnose problems during operations.
Independent research capability and innovative mindset.
Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Maintain and improve SPEAR3 storage ring performance and injector.
Lead design studies for a future SSRL light source; run simulations.
Participate in accelerator physics measurements during MD periods.
Collaborate with SSRL photon scientists to justify a next-generation facility.
Propose upgrades and contribute to upgrade management.
