Job description

About the Team

OpenAI's mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity. Achieving this goal requires more than cutting-edge research-it also demands deep, durable engagement with policymakers, institutions, industry leaders, and communities shaping the future of AI around the world.

The Global Affairs team leads this engagement globally, building trusted relationships with governments, regulators, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and strategic partners. By bringing external perspectives into OpenAI-and helping communicate OpenAI's priorities outward-we support thoughtful governance frameworks, responsible standards, and public understanding of AI technologies.

We work closely across research, product, legal, communications, partnerships, and go-to-market teams to anticipate emerging issues, shape proactive engagement strategies, and advance OpenAI's mission internationally.

About the Role

OpenAI believes that access to AI tools and training should expand opportunity. We're looking for an Academy Partnerships Lead to manage and strengthen the partner relationships that support OpenAI Academy's programming.

This person will work with nonprofits, educational institutions, community organizations, industry associations, and other partners to bring practical AI learning to the communities they serve. They will serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of Academy partners, translating shared goals into clear plans and supporting delivery from onboarding through evaluation and expansion.

You'll play a critical role in helping partners deliver successful hands‑on learning experiences and build the capacity to sustain AI education within their own organizations and communities.

Key Responsibilities
Partnership Development & Management
  • Build and manage relationships with partners supporting Academy Jams and our Community Trainer Program.
  • Translate partnership commitments into clear scopes, responsibilities, timelines, and success measures.
  • Assess partner recruitment, facilitator capacity, and delivery readiness; guide onboarding and implementation.
  • Align partner expectations with Academy priorities, resources, and delivery capacity.
Program Strategy & Execution
  • Manage contractors and delivery partners supporting assigned Jams and train‑the‑trainer programs.
  • Own partner participation in the train‑the‑trainer program, from readiness and commitments through implementation, performance, and expansion.
  • Work closely with Academy program, curriculum, and instructional teams to connect partners with appropriate content, training, and support.
  • Develop playbooks, onboarding materials, and implementation guidance that make partner delivery consistent and repeatable.
  • Evaluate partner performance and feedback; recommend improvements, renewals, expansion, or exits.
External Engagement
  • Represent OpenAI Academy in partner meetings, workshops, and community convenings.
  • Identify opportunities to reach new audiences and deepen successful partnerships.
  • Synthesize partner needs and insights to inform Academy content, delivery models, and strategy.
  • Contribute to briefing materials, presentations, and updates on partnership progress and impact.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
  • Experience managing partnerships and programs within education, nonprofit, community, workforce development, or public‑sector environments.
  • Strong relationship‑management and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
  • Experience executing initiatives involving multiple organizations, from planning through implementation and evaluation.
  • Excellent communication and project management abilities, including managing competing priorities across a portfolio of partners.
  • Experience supporting workshops, facilitator networks, train‑the‑trainer programs, or other partner‑led learning models.
  • The ability to translate broad partnership goals into practical delivery plans and clear commitments.
  • Familiarity with adult learning, AI literacy, or community education.
  • A commitment to expanding access to opportunity through technology and education.
  • Comfort operating in fast‑paced, ambiguous environments and building processes as programs grow.
