Position Supervision: This role reports to the Chief Academics Officer Lars Nelson

Position Location: This position is fully school-based out of San Antonio, with support across campuses in San Antonio, Manor, and Bastrop, TX. It’s an ideal opportunity for leaders who are interested in stepping into district-level work while remaining deeply grounded in day-to-day classroom instruction—directly coaching, co-teaching, and collaborating with teachers and school leaders to drive impact where it matters most.

YOU HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (required)
  • Experience as a highly effective K-12 Math or ELA teacher, as measured by student achievement. (required)
  • Curriculum
  • ELA: Deep knowledge of Amplify and McGraw Hill StudySync (Highly preferred)
  • Experience as a highly effective teacher (Assistant Principal experience highly preferred)
  • High expectations and a sense of possibility for the achievement of all students

YOUR MISSION

As a Math or ELA instructional leader, your mission is to redefine what’s possible in public education by ensuring that Compass Rose students build a strong academic foundation that paves the way for long-term success. You will play a critical role in strengthening our K–12 Math or ELA programs by building teacher and leader capacity, supporting curriculum implementation, and driving instructional excellence. In close partnership with school leaders and educators, you will help ensure that every Compass Rose campus in San Antonio delivers high-quality, equitable Math or ELA instruction. Your success in this role will be measured by multiple indicators, with a central focus on improving student achievement across the network.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum Resource Management

  • Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction to design key instructional planning materials for ELA & Humanities teachers (i.e. Year long plan, planning guides, curriculum maps, scope and sequence documents, ‘Look fors,’ assessments, etc.)
  • Serve as an adviser to ELA & Humanities teachers and school leaders in the implementation of Network-adopted ELA & Humanities curricula and special ELA programs, and in the evaluation and selection of supplemental teaching materials.
  • Stay abreast of developments in ELA & Humanities education curriculum and instruction, and provide leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the Network’s instructional program.
  • Coordinate, implements and oversees various other special programs, events, and projects, either related to ELA education or to other instructional/administrative functions of the Network as assigned.
  • Strategically plan with the Student Support Services team to ensure that the diverse instructional needs of students are met in the Network’s ELA instruction program.
  • Attend and participate in curriculum and instructional technology planning team meetings.
  • Perform routine administrative/office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data.

Professional Development

  • Share effective instructional strategies with teachers both individually and through in-service workshops.
  • Co-teach or visit teachers in schools to model lesson instruction; observe teachers in the classroom as scheduled and/or as requested by principals.
  • Make recommendations for improvement in performance as appropriate; offers advice and assistance as needed.
  • Provide professional leadership, consultation, and support of the Network’s ELA & Humanities education teachers to help ensure the provision of effective classroom instruction and programming.
  • Assist teachers and school leaders in meeting identified goals in ELA instruction.
  • Design and deliver beginning-of-year and ongoing curriculum professional development to increase student achievement.

Assessment Development & Data Response

  • Partner with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction to manage and design the network’s ELA assessments and necessary revisions throughout the year (including IAs, curriculum-embedded assessments, quizzes, and exit tickets).
  • Analyze state and Network ELA assessment data to help target professional development needs.
  • Provide testing support by providing teachers with standardized test preparation materials, analyze test results, and conduct related meetings and workshops.
  • Compile data for and prepare various statistical, administrative, and professional reports as required by the Network and/or other agencies.
  • Directly teach or intervene for short-cycle assignments to drive mastery of specific TEKS in response to assessment data.
