Job summary

Boone County Schools seeks an Academic Team Sponsor for Elementary, Middle, and High levels. The sponsor coaches students for scholastic competitions, plans regular practices, schedules contests, and manages equipment with principal approval.

Responsibilities include ensuring supervision by certified staff after school, enforcing eligibility criteria, and maintaining communication with students, families, and the community to promote discipline and achievement.

Qualifications

  • Must hold Kentucky teaching certificate or Emergency Certificate for Substitute Teaching
  • Para Educator employed by Boone County Schools and eligible under KRS 161.180(2)
  • Current CPR/First Aid with AED certification from an approved program
  • Able to work well with all students
  • Able to communicate effectively with students, faculty, parents, and the community
  • Coaching and program planning experience for academic competitions

Responsibilities

  • Coach participants in skills for excellence in academic competition
  • Plan and schedule regular practice
  • Schedule all contests
  • Recommend equipment and supplies
  • Obtain principal approval for fund raising activities
  • Monitor student fundraising related to the program
  • Enforce eligibility criteria
  • Maintain discipline and sportsmanlike conduct
  • Obtain principal approval for trips/contests
  • Supervise students with certified personnel after school programs
  • Participate in duties described in the regular teacher job description
  • Maintain practice schedules to document proper skills/knowledge
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

Job description

TITLE: Academic Team Sponsor - Elementary, Middle, High
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Has a valid Kentucky teaching certificate; or
  • Holds a valid Emergency Certificate for Substitute Teaching under the qualifications outlined in 16 KAR 2:120 Sec. 2 (7)(b); or
  • Is employed as a Para Educator, with Boone County Schools, and qualifies under compliance with KRS 161.180(2)
  • Have current certification of C.P.R. course including Adult and child certifications, the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator and the requisite First Aid Training, conducted by an instructor or program approved by a college or university, the American Red Cross, American Heart Association or other bona fide accrediting agency
  • Has the ability to work well with all students
  • Has the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, parents, and the community
JOB GOAL: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, and an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in academic competition
  • Plan and schedule a regular program of practice
  • Schedule all contests
  • Recommend the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies
  • Obtain advanced approval from the principal for all fund raising activities
  • Monitor and be responsible for all student fund raising activities related to the academic program
  • Enforce the established performance criteria for eligibility
  • Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times
  • Obtain principal's approval in advance for all trips and contests
  • Have all students under supervision of certified personnel at all times at approved after school programs
  • Participate in those functions and activities as described in the regular teacher job description
  • Maintain a file of practice schedules to document the teaching of proper skills/knowledge
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
