Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. You will perform gross examination, dissection, sampling, and prepare tissues for intraoperative consultations in a dynamic academic setting.

You will mentor residents, collaborate with subspecialists, and contribute to education and quality initiatives while working in a busy, high-volume pathology service.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
• ASCP PA(ASCP) certification.
• New York State license required or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection and sampling of diverse surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section with pathologists.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure correct orientation and submission.
• Mentor residents and learners in grossing technique and surgical pathology practice.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff and lab leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development and education initiatives.
