Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 6,000 TK-College students across 29 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. Position Overview

The High School Academic Programs Manager has general responsibility for 9th-12th programs that support members’ success in school and will report to the High School Program Director. You will plan, organize, direct and control the program and maintenance of programs related to homework completion, tutoring, and academic mentoring for teens at The East Palo Alto Clubhouse. Additionally, you will be the instructor for a remedial math class, offered in partnership with a local school. You shall assume accountability for the results in achieving the outlined goals and objectives of The Study (the high school academic room).

Roles & Responsibilities

Program Management (50%)

  • Plan, organize and conduct educational programs, including tutoring, homework completion, study groups, and academic mentorship programs.
  • Ensure homework completion programs are conducted at a high level. Provide coaching, resources and support as needed.
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to get new youth to participate in the academic program.
  • Promote and stimulate engagement in The Study with a diverse range of students. Build a culture where all youth understand the importance of completing high school.
  • Ensure youth who need it most are enrolled in on-site tutoring and academic mentorship programs.
  • Coordinate volunteers, corporate partners, and part-time staff to support academic programming within The Study.
  • Partner with local schools and teachers to better understand student needs and how our programs can support school success.

Direct Service (30%)

  • Teach remedial math course at EPA Clubhouse for local partner school students.
  • Teach summer courses as needed.
  • Provide individual and small-group tutoring to high school students.

Day to Day Duties (20%)

  • Track member participation and progress in academic programs.
  • Build collaborative working relationships with parents.
  • Track and analyze program data.
  • Attend all meetings, conferences and training as required, assist with any fundraising projects conducted by the Club and assist with all Club-wide special events.
  • At all times maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of the high standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong classroom management/discipline skills.
  • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience working with 9th - 12th grades
  • Ability to develop and implement organized educational programs and services.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (within 90 days of employment).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Teaching credential from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to speak and write in Spanish.
  • Minimum of one year classroom teaching or tutoring experience in a traditional or non-traditional setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Sequoia Union High School District programs, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Experience working with school systems, including educational advocacy.
  • Knowledge of current educational trends in after school programming.
  • Knowledge of current trends in evaluation and measurement.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Strong computer skills including Windows, Microsoft Office

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squatting, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 80% walking & standing. Work environment noise level is usually moderate but can be noisy at times. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

Monday - Friday

Academic School Year 10:30am - 7:30pm

Summer 10:00am - 7:00pm

Compensation & Benefits

  • Employment Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
  • Pay Range: $33-$36/hour, depending on experience (DOE)
